Sand Dunes and Lighthouse

KC Beach Master 2 The Tuesday Color Challenge on SCS was to use Kraft, Not Quite Navy and Baja Breeze. I thought it would be interesting to see if I could create a beach scene on the Kraft paper that would allow the blues to show well for the sea and sky.

I stamped the light house on the Kraft cardstock and a second one on a piece of watercolor paper to cut out and pop up.  I sponged on Latte to create the sand dunes and stamped over the sand with a small dune image.  I masked off the shore line and sponged on a dark layer of Baja to create the water and then sponged in the sky. There was not good distinction between the water and sky so I replaced the mask to cover the sky area and added Note Quite Navy to the water for more definition between the two. I added a touch of Lemonade to the sky for a soft sunny look.  I painted the lighthouse, cut it out and popped up over the scene. I cut two additional pieces of Kraft paper with deckle scissors to create additional dunes to pop up in front of the lighthouse. They look so much like the brown sand dunes along the Outer Banks where we vacation every summer. I stamped a small section of fence and cut it out with a craft knife and  attached the fence in front of the lighthouse and tobe behind the front dune.  I cut strips of artichoke cardstock with my craft knife to create a bunch of sea oats to pop up with the fence and attached with Mod Podge. I used markers to sketch in sea grass and oats on the dunes.  I used a Copic marker to color a piece of white grosgrain to match the sand color. I wouldn’t necessarily want to do scenes on Kraft cardstock regularly but it has a rustic feel that is appealing to me.
