Sunshine, Sand and Water

Rubbernecker Special Shopper’s Reward This Weekend

The weekend is finally here!  I have had a busy work week and have looked forward to a restful and relaxing couple of days to recuperate.  How about you?  The weather here in Florida has been a delight with bright sunny days, low humidity and perfect temperatures. I wish it could last but the heat and humidity will be here soon and will last way into late fall.

The Friday Free For All Challenge on Splitcoaststampers was to create a project with a sunshine theme.  I was inspired to create a sunny beach scene.  Although Florida has gorgeous beaches my scene looks more like the sand dunes at the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  The storms, high wind and rough surf constantly pick away at the beaches and dunes causing erosion. Sand retaining fences are placed all along the shore line and sea oats are planted as a means to protect against erosion.

I had lots of fun trying to recreate my fond memories of the shore line of our family’s beloved Cape Hatteras, NC.

I sponged in the sand area, masked off the water line and then sponged in the water. I punched a circle out to mask off the sky area and sponged in yellow to create the sun and then removed and sponged in blue and yellow for the sky area. I used the smallest sand image in my Kittie Kits Beach Master to stamp in texture and then stamped several sea oats around the scene. I finished off by stamping the fences. I lightly sponged in dirt areas around each clump of sea oats. I cut the frame with a Nestabilities die to mount up over the scene. The solid blue frame  looked so stark against the scene  so I repeated the sponging, stamping, etc. to carry the scene of the sand dune and fence line out onto the frame.

I hope you have a great weekend.  Don’t forget to check out the Special Shopper’s Reward event at Rubbernecker.
