Susan Tierney Cockburn’s Sunflower

Good Saturday morning.  Today my project is made with Susan Tierney Cockburn’s newly released Sunflower set.  If you love making flowers as much as I do then you definitely need to check out Susan’s whole collection.  I received my order from Ellen’s yesterday containing four more sets that I will be sharing with you over the next few days.

When I think of sunflowers I picture them bordering a large vegetable garden in the heat of summer. Here’s a link to one of Anna Wight’s Garden Posts with  photos of her wonderful garden including her beautiful sunflowers. I couldn’t resist posing one of her photos here.

I started by viewing Susan’s Sunflower video and following all the steps she shows to create my flower.  I sponged ink on the petals and the leaves to add depth.

I scored the leaves and petals with the leaf tool and leaf pad and added shape to the petals using the stylus and loop tool. I shaped the tiny seed pods with the small stylus and then began assembling the flower.  Here a couple closer views.

I created a double matted frame using the Spellbinders Labels One and Grand Labels One.  I used the Impression Obsession Gingham Cover a Card stamp inked with wild honey distress ink to create the country gingham background.

I attached the frame to the card base with mounting tape and then attached the sunflower and leaves.  I don’t know about you but I think sunflowers and gingham are such a perfect combination.

I went back and forth a little trying to decide if I needed to purchase Susan’s Accessory Tool Kit since I already have so many flower tools.  After watching several of her tutorial videos I saw tools that I didn’t have and definitely needed. I especially love the leaf tool, loop tool and leaf pad and the molding pad is a perfect replacement for my battered mouse pad. I thought I would give you my recommendation just in case you’re pondering the same question.  Click on this link and scroll down to see Susan’s tool kit video.

Have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by.

  3. Love this card, Kittie. These flower dies are just so pretty. I have ordered some and can’t wait to try them. Yesterday a bunch of friends and I went to the Scrapbook EXpo in Orlando and really missed seeing you there at Rubberneckers. Maybe we will get to see you at Stampfest. Meanwhile, I will check your wonderful blog each day.
