Inspired Framed Hydrangea

Good Sunday morning.  My project today was made for the Splitcoaststampers Inspiration Challenge and the inspiration was The Pastry Studio. Oh, my goodness!  I was so inspired by all of the wonderful floral cakes.  I finally settled on a beautiful cake featuring a green hydrangea with lavender and green trim.

I wanted to try and recreate the green and white hydrangea. Here’s what I came up with.

I created the hydrangea using the Impression Obsession Hydrangea Set and the leaves using the Sizzix Leaves Garden  set.  I die cut the petals, lightly colored them with bright yellow green Pan Pastel and assembled them.  I built the flower on a 3/4” circle base and layered it a 1/2” circle attached with mounting tape to create dimension.  I attached the petals by starting on  the smaller top circle and then around the larger base.  This created a round hydrangea bloom without making it to large.  You can check out my hydrangea tutorial if you would like to see step by step photos of how I build this flower. The tutorial flower is much larger but you can see the concept.

I cut the leaves, scored them with the leaf tool from the Sizzix Accessory Tool Kit and lightly applied a little of the green Pan Pastel to create a more natural color.

I cut the frames using the Spellbinders Decorative Labels Eight and Classic Ovals, created a double matted frame and mounted them to the card base. You can see my step by step frame tutorial here

I attached the stem and leaves to the base using glossy accents and then attached the flower using mounting tape.  I wanted the flower to stand away from the base for dimension.  Here’s a couple with  closer views.

I colored a piece of white satin ribbon with a BV13 Hydrangea Blue Copic marker to match the amethyst paper.  Yes…..believe it or not the frame and ribbon are amethyst although the photo shows it to be blue.  Sometimes the camera and Paint Shop Pro just doesn’t want to cooperate to give the true colors.  LOL!
