This was a time consuming card to make since it was my first time working with this pop up die.  Once I got that figured out I had to figure out how to create the background to fill in the opening left from the bench cut. I took a few shots to show my steps for the basic bench pop up layer and background layer.

I started with a 5.50” x 4.25” piece of cardstock and scored it down the middle. I placed it on my magnetic platform and placed the die face down lining up the notches on each side of the die with the score line.

I removed all the negative pieces from the cut, folded the bench on the score lines to create the pop up. Once I had completed that I gently folded the card shut to strengthen the scored sections.

2

I knew I wanted to sponge in a sky and grassy ground area to create a scene behind the bench.  I folded a second piece of cardstock, used the opening of the bench layer as a template to mark the area that I needed to sponge color on for the background.

After I finished I used my new best friend, Post-It Removable Labeling Tape to mask off the bench to protect while I sponged in the sky and ground area.   I used my Inkssentials ink blending tool to apply the ink to both areas and then repeated the application on the inside background layer. I added texture to the grass area with the mini fern stamp from my Outdoor Master. I didn’t bring the green grass all the way out to the end of the card base as I thought it was more interesting to stop it further back.

I turned the background layer over and created a simple matching scene on the front layer.  I applied flowers, grass and butterflies to a fence with a welcoming open gate to invite you in to the inside scene.

I applied leaves and flowers to the tree with glossy accents and attached it to the back of the card using mounting tape and rolled up glue dots. I cut grass sections and applied to the back wall of the card. I used the small grass die that came in the bench set to create the grass in front of the bench.  I added sprigs of foliage and flowers to the grassy background and at the foot of the bench legs. I added several pink butterflies to soften the scene and arranged a tiny floral bouquet to place on the bench for the finishing touch. I didn’t have matching ribbon thin enough to use for the tie so I cut a thin strip of the pink cardstock, ran it through my fingers a few times to soften the paper and tied the tiny knot.  I love that little bouquet.

  2. Wow, this is like getting two cards in one! I love the picket fence side, it reminds me of fences I see on Boca Grande surrounding some of the quaint cottages. The inside is just amazing! All I need is a good book, a soft cushion, a nice warm scone and tea, and I’m all set for some “me” time.

  7. I love, love this card. Karen Burniston is my top favourite die designer. I have her bench die on the very top of my wish list. Thank you for the excellent step by step photo tutorial for assembling the bench. The poppystamps fence is perfect for the front of this card. I haven’t commented lately because we were away visiting our family-grandchildren, we had an amazing, fun visit. We haven’t seen them since Christmas, because of my fall and breaking my leg at the end of January. We were getting ready to leave and I had a fall and ended up in hospital.
This card has brightened a cold, wet, windy day. Thank you for sharing.
