Window, Awning, Flowers, Cats and Blog Candy

Good Sunday morning. I have a see thru window project to share with you today that I made for the Splitcoaststampers Inspiration Challenge.  Our inspiration site was The World Market and I was inspired by the Spring Flowers set. I loved the awning in the inspiration piece so I hand made mine to fit my window.  I thought it would be perfect paired with the Poppystamps Small Madison Arched Window.  I created the large flower pots using the Impression Obsession Vase Set and the small pots are Memory Box Garden Pots.  I used the Hollyhocks, Spiral Flowers, Tiny Flowers, Leaves and Stems and Leafy Branch to fill all the pots.  I couldn’t resist adding a few cats in the scene since I was surrounded by all four of my cats while I made this.

Here’s a photo of the inspiration piece.  I love how soft and pretty it is.

I started by cutting the window twice and using one as a template to draw lines to guide where I cut the window opening.  I attached the outer window with mounting tape and attached in the inner window with ATG adhesive.  I cut 1/2” white strips of cardstock and attached them to the awning.  I attached a scalloped border to add a soft touch and interest.  I scored the awning twice 1/4” apart, folded and attached to the card base over the window.

I used two vases from the vase set and cut off a small portion of each to make them the proper scale for the scene. I filled all the pots with foliage and flowers.  I kept all the flowers the same color instead of a mix as I thought it would have more impact.  I attached the pots to the card base using mounting tape. I colored the cats with a black Copic marker and attached them to the scene with mounting tape. Here’s a closer view that shows the dimension.

Sophie (black cat), Toby and Cassie (black and white cats) were represented here.  Chloe, my long haired Siamese didn’t make the cut. I just didn’t think I could fit a 4th cat on the card. LOL!

I wasn’t able to post every day this week as I had a pretty hard work week.  I didn’t feel like I had any mojo Saturday as I started looking at the Inspiration Challenge and almost didn’t make anything.  But after I got started I felt stress rolling off my shoulders.  Crafting is always good for me.  Check out this article regarding the health benefits of crafting that my husband sent to me a while back.  Here is an excerpt that may catch your attention.

“Crafting can help those who suffer from anxiety, depression or chronic pain, experts say. It may also ease stress, increase happiness and protect the brain from damage caused by aging”.

Today I am offering the retired Memory Box Pearl Lace die for blog candy. It is 7.25” long and .50” wide.  All you have to do is leave a comment on this blog post.  You will have until Thursday, May 8th at 5:00 pm to leave a comment.  I will announce the winner on my Friday or Saturday post.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a great Sunday.

  16. You are amazing, your skill with dies is something I am always in awe of. I really needed your post today, the stress around here has been tremendous. I have been neglecting my crafting and am sorely missing it, going to have to try to fit it in unfortunately my biggest issue is there are only 24 hours in a day and I’ve run out of energy. Thanks for the link and the encouragement in your snippet!

  17. When you create your cards with kitties on it my heart melts. Sadly we just lost our nearly 20 year old Siamese and miss her so. A tribute card with her in a window setting is well worth my attempt. You have inspired me especially today. OH, and the Pearl Lace die could fit nicely in my die stash. Why would Memory Box retire such a beauty?

  30. Good Afternoon, Kittie, I am sure at the long end of the list today. It has been a busy pass few days for me too. Not to worry, friend, you can take a day off,we love what you do everyday, and know you will be back with more inspiration. And this one is SUPER, AMAZING, I love everything about it. Everyday, I learn more, and when not here, it a good time to review your creations and get ready for the next gorgeous inspiration.
I was just wondering, what to do when mailing this one. Would I be right to place some tissue under the awning so it will be open when removed. I would also put into a larger envelope with bubble wrap. Does that sound good? reminded me of Paris in the Spring.

  42. Amazing card, and I so………….. love the bright happy colours. That snippet about the health benefits of crafting is so true. My friend who has always been a fabulous crafter lost the ability to use her hands a year ago for no reason at all. But through share determination and the love of it all she has slowly been able to get back to teaching craft and making cards again. She still struggles at times but her fantastic determination to fight on still amazes me today.

  46. Beautiful, inspiring card Kittie! The awning is amazing! I may have a card sometime that I could use your technique for. Love the pots of flowers, I just purchased the tiny flowers die at my local paper arts store, it is a great die. The holyhocks die will be my next purchase, they are one of my favourite summer flowers. I believe in the health benefits of creating, since my accident at the end of Jan. I have been doing more creating, art journaling and card making and mixed media fiber art, and using paper and stuff I have had for years, since I can’t get out and walk, I am creating. I think my recovery is going well because of it, people have asked me why I am not more negative, I think it is the creativity. Also your blog has given me much needed creative inspiration. I am now making a Mother’s day card for my daughter in love, I am making a garden scene, inspired by your scene cards. Thank you for all the creative inspiration you share, I am amazed that you post as often as you do. When you don’t post I think you are working on something amazing and when it is ready you will share, and usually that is what happens. When typepad went out of whack I was worried because I couldn’t access your blog, but then I figured a way. I visit daily and your blog lifts my spirits and inspires me to get creating.
    Thank you for sharing today.

  54. Hi Kittie! I came across your blog several days ago and when I saw this card, it blew my mind! It is so beautiful and whimsy at the same time. I plan on getting the tools that I need to make one (or two, or three, or etc., etc.). Unfortunately, I have several health issues which have caused me to become a chair potato. Thank God for my husband doing the shopping, chauffering, house cleaning, and everything else that I can’t do anymore. I finally had to find something to occupy my mind and my hands to keep me from losing my mind. First I watched TV, then I started making jewelry, then I learned to do kumihimo and from there I went to making paracord survival bracelets. I don’t know what made me want to make cards, but I have gotten into that recently and I absolutely love it!!! There is no way I can get bored with this because there are so many different styles and patterns available. I would love to be the winner of your Memory Box Pearl Lace die!! Thank you so much for your beautiful work.
