Shade Tree Window Scene

Good Friday morning.  I wanted to share my full window scene project that I made for the Taylored Expressions blog post.  This is one of my favorite window cards and I wanted  to keep it in my window card archives.  For this scene I used the Shade Tree Cutting Plate, Birch Tree Accessories, Display Window, Window Accessories and Flowers and Stems.

I started by attaching designer paper to card base. I created siding by cutting several ½” x 4 ¼” strips of card stock and started at bottom of card base attaching the strips, overlapping slightly.

I created a see through window on the card base by using the die cut window as a template, drawing cutting lines and then cutting with craft knife. I cut two windows and attached one window to card base with mounting tape. I attached drapes on the inside of the window opening and attached the second window over the inside opening to cover the raw cut edges. You can check out my see thru window tutorial if you would like to see step by step photos of how I make the my open window.

I colored the shade tree with brown and green Copic markers and added dimension by applying touches of brown and green distress ink with a mini applicator. I cut the tree out of the frame and attached an extension on the bottom of the trunk to allow it to be the full height of the card. I attached the tree to the base with mounting tape and covered the extension spot on the trunk with the birdhouse and vines. I applied a thin strip of a hand cut grass border to the bottom of the card base with mounting tape.

I attached the flower pots to the back of the window box and attach it to the card base with mounting tape. I tucked a few larger foliage stems and flowers in behind the grass border and attached with glossy accents. I attached the bird to the tree branch with rolled up glue dots.

  3. I could not find you yesterday either. You put soo much detail and creativity into your cards, that they are really works of art. How lucky are these companies to have you design for them.

  5. This card is so professional! I was thinking that all of your cards could be used for a writer to have the illustrator put them in wonderful books, especially children’s. I think I just hit on what I’ve been trying to you about your work…it is sooooooooooo innocent looking, a fabulous reminder of days gone by. TFS & HUGS.
