Land of the Free

Good Monday morning.  My project today is a patriotic card in honor of Memorial Day and was made using the Impression Obsession US Flag, Land of the Free and the Flag Banner dies.  These are perfect dies to use for the Fourth of July and Veterans day as well.

I cut the whole flag in red and again in white and the star section in blue.  I turned the white flag base front side down, removed the white stripes and filled back in with the red stripes.  Once they were all in place I used strips of tape to hold them in place.  Next I removed all the blue stars from the blue section and taped it in place from the back with a strip of tape. I turned the flag front side up so I could fill in the white stars.  I took the white star section and laid it directly over the blue and pushed the stars down in to the matching openings with my paper piercer.  This worked pretty well and I was able to get most of them tucked in place.  There were a few stragglers that I had to round up and set in place.  I applied wide strips of mounting tape to the back of the flag and attached to the card base.

I cut the Land of the Free in blue and white and used both to create a shadow and to add a little more interest to the letters.  I used Crafter’s Pick glue to attach the letters together and  lightly tapped the glue to the back of the white words with my finger and attached them to the blue.  I cut thin pieces of mounting tape and attached in several key places on the back of the words and attached them in place on the card base. I cut three flags off the flag banner, attached mounting tape to the back of each and tucked them in under the flag.  I thought they added another element of interest.

  1. On ne s’envoie pas de cartes patriotiques en France, pourtant on défile dans les rues le 14 juillet ! On devrait te copier car en plus, ta carte est belle.
    Bon 4 juillet !

  3. The added touches of shadowing the letters and adding the three small blue banners takes this card to the top of the class. American patriotism has always impressed me … Land of the Free and Home of the Brave. We all need to pause for a moment to remember that these freedoms came and continue to come, at a cost.
