This one of my spring season greeting card ideas can be adapted in so many ways and always be just perfect!

It seems like Spring has finally decided to settle in and with that come lots of spring season greeting card ideas from my brain to my blog! Being someone who loves creating die cut paper flower elements for cards, Spring is one of my favorite themes.

This spring time card design idea is actually very simple. I used the white on white method with an ornate die cut frame to start. This adds lots of beautiful textural shadows with zero additional time or effort. The Leaf Cover Plate die I used takes up quite a bit of real estate meaning I have less to cover with the decorative elements, saving even more time AND bringing them into sharp focus. Win-win!

For those decorative elements, I opted to use a beautifully detailed die cut bird using the new Spring Birds die along with some dainty flowers. I colored the bird using mini applicators and color fuse inks, which I’ve shared in detail below. The flowers are simple little die cuts with some shaping. Let me share…..

Leaf Cover and Sentiment

  • Cut an A2 sized card base and the Leaf Cover Plate using white cardstock.
  • Secure the card base and the Kittie Says Mini Spring #1 sentiment in the MISTI, apply Shady Lane ink to the stamp and stamp the sentiment.  Pro Tip:  Once the card base was secured in the MISTI I laid the leaf cover frame over it to line up where the two sentiment stamps needed to be placed.
  • Apply strips of mounting tape around the back frame borders and tiny pop dots to several key leaves and attach it to the card base.

Bring the Die Cut Bird to Life

  • Cut the bird sections using white cardstock.
  • Apply Artic Color Fuse Ink from Set #7 to the upper body, head and feather section using a mini applicator.
  • Use a mini applicator to apply a layer of pale Lemon Color Fuse Ink from Set #1y to the lower body section of the bird.
  • Apply soft touches of Custard Color Fuse Ink over the yellow using the mini applicator.
  • Attach the wing to the bird using rolled up double stick tape.

  • Color the bird beak using a black marker and attach the black eye to the bird using a tiny touch of glossy accents. PRO TIP: I actually save the teeny dots that come out of my die cuts for this exact purpose. It’s amazing what a difference using an itty bitty die cut can make to add dimension to your creations.

Floral Perch

  • Use green cardstock to cut several of the branches from the Leaf Cover set.
  • Create a foliage perch by attaching the branches to the corner of the frame using glossy accents.
  • Attach the bird to the foliage and frame using a piece of mounting tape.
  • Cut pink, yellow and purple cardstock to cut the Small Flowers #4.
  • Place the flowers face up on the molding pad and push down in the centers using a small tipped stylus.
  • Attach the flowers to the branches strategically around the bird to fill in.
  • Finish by attaching tiny green circles to the flowers using glossy accents.  Pro Tip:  The tiny flower centers were also negative pieces left from cutting a small eyelet die. Call me crazy but you can see what this does for your designs!
