What the heck is a Semi Funky Fold Accordion Card? Check out my take on this kit!

When I first saw Paper Cut’s Semi Funky Fold Accordion Card kit I really stopped and scratched my head – what on earth? Then when I opened it up and saw how FUN this fold is, my head popped with all kinds of ideas. I love the vintage-y vibe of this card with the decorative edges on the layers, which I used to the max, and that pretty “wallpaper” style patterned paper. The colors were pulled for my die cut elements from that paper and love how this turned out!

I also am tickled by how when folded up it looks like an ordinary card but when you open it – well! It really wows! Read on to see how I turned this pre-cut pre-scored Semi Funky Fold Accordion card into something special.

Loads of details made with die cuts to create the decorative layers and flower filled watering cans turn this Semi Funky Fold Accordion Card template into something special!

Prepping the Semi Funky Fold Accordion Card Base

  • Reinforce the score lines of the A2 sized Semi Funky Fold Accordion card base using a bone folder.
  • Cut sections of designer paper to cover each section of the card base.
    • 1 = 5.25″ x 4″ section
    • 2 = 5.25″ x 1.75″ sections
    • 2 = 4.25″ x 1.50″ sections
    • 1 = 4.25″ x 2.75″ section
  • Attach the three main paper layers to the card base using ATG adhesive.
  • Score and fold the three center sections of paper before attaching them to the card base.
  • Line up the folded pieces over the fold lines on the card base and attach.  Pro Tip:  Pre scoring the three pieces will help getting them lined up perfectly in place when attaching.

Decorative Layers

  • Use white cardstock to cut three of the largest die in the Fancy Decorative Nested set.
  • Cut one section in half vertically and attach them to the two fold sections as shown using ATG adhesive.
  • Fold one of the remaining die cut layers in half, unfold and attach it horizontally to the center fold out section with more ATG adhesive. PRO TIP: Just as with the decorative paper in the steps above, pre-folding this piece will ensure that the card will close and open correctly.
  • Using a stamp positioner, stamp your chosen sentiment in the center of the third die cut layer.
  • Apply ATG adhesive to the back of the sentiment layer and attach it vertically to the back section of the card base.

Watering Can Flower Arrangements

  • Choose cardstock colors to match the designer paper.
  • Cut two watering cans using red color cardstock.
  • Use red, peach and light blue cardstock to cut the Tiny Flowers #2 and Small Flowers #3.
  • Place the flowers face up on the molding pad and form them by pushing down in the centers using a small tipped stylus.
  • Cut the Flower Stems using green cardstock.
  • Attach the flowers to the  flower stems using glossy accents.
  • Attach tiny white flower centers to the flowers using glossy accents.  Pro Tip:  I keep all the negative circle pieces when I cut eyelet borders dies.  They are perfect to use for flower centers, falling snowflakes, etc.
  • Create the floral arrangements by attaching the flower stems to the back of the cans using glossy accents.
  • Attach the watering can arrangements to the center fold out using a generous amount to glossy accents.
  • Check out my Video Tutorial showing how I create these small watering can arrangements.

This pretty Semi-Funky Fold Accordion card makes such a statement and easily folds down to an A2 sized card.  This particular version did not fit into an A2 sized envelope with all the different layers like I used but would if it didn’t have so many dimensional parts.
