Make a Santa Scene Card With Dies from Rubbernecker!

Come see how you can make a Santa scene card with loads of details with easy to use dies for every magical touch!

I have been known to make a Santa scene card every now and then – you can see a few of them here. There’s something so magical about creating that iconic look of Santa with his sleigh loaded down, soaring through the sky, spreading his cheer through the land. And I am just so glad that Rubbernecker understands that these cards are so fun to make and have provided us with so many dies that make creating every little detail we can think of so much easier.

For today’s card, I used their Santa with Presents, Santa’s Sleigh, Flying Reindeer, Winter Sign, Deckle Hills, Tiny Leaves, and Greenery #1 dies along with their Magic of Christmas and Splatter Background stamps to add the sentiment and that starry sky. Now that may sound like a lot of dies and you’d be right – it is. But one of the fantastic things that Rubbernecker does is, as they release new designs, they look back at their collection and often will add in new elements that coordinate with their other ones. This means that you can easily build out a theme with dies that will combine in ways that add tons of creative opportunities to your crafting.

Learn how to make a Santa scene card like this where he's fling through the night sky on his delivery route!

Let me share with you the steps for making this Santa scene card. It is a little more involved, but the dies do make the creation of each element so easy and actually FUN to put together.

Card Base and Snow Layers

  • Use white cardstock to cut an A2 sized card base.
  • Cut a 5.50″ x 4.25″ layer using black cardstock.
  • Secure the black layer and Splatter Background stamp in the MISTI, stamp using white pigment ink and emboss with with white embossing powder.
  • Apply double stick tape to the back of the snow layer and attach it to the card base.
  • Cut two Deckle Hills layers, attach one to the card base using double stick tape and attach the second one with a strip of mounting tape.

North Pole Sign Post and Greenery

  • Use red and white cardstock to cut the Winter Sign post.
  • Assemble the pieces and attach them together using Connect glue.
  • Tuck the sign post in behind the snow layer and attach using a thin strip of mounting tape.
  • Use white cardstock to cut the Nested Circle.
  • Secure the circle and Magic of Christmas sentiment stamp in the MISTI and stamp using Nocturne ink.
  • Apply pieces of mounting tape to the back of the sentiment circle and attach it to the card base.
  • Cut a section of the Greenery #1 using green cardstock.
  • Tuck the greenery in behind the snow layers and attach in place using glossy accents.

Using several sets of holiday dies from Rubbernecker you can make a Santa scene card complete with a loaded sleigh and reindeer like this one.

Santa and His Sleigh

  • Use red, white , black and gold metallic cardstock to cut the Santa pieces.
  • Assemble all the pieces and attach them together using glossy accents.  Note: I used black cardstock and gold cardstock for Santa’s belt but it’s mostly covered up with the sleigh.
  • Use red, white, gold and green cardstock to cut the presents and Santa’s bag.
  • Assemble and attach the pieces together and attach them using glossy accents.
  • Cut the sleigh section using red cardstock, gold runner and gold sleigh trim using gold metallic cardstock.
  • Apply rolled up double stick tape to the back of the gold trim and attach it to the top border of the sleigh.
  • Use glossy accents to attach the gold runner to the sleigh section.
  • Use glossy accents and tiny pop dots to attach Santa, the presents and Santa’s bag to the back side of the sleigh.

The Reindeer

  • Cut the reindeer using white cardstock and the harness using red and white cardstock.
  • Apply Mocha ink to the whole body of the reindeer using a mini applicator.
  • Use Pecan ink to apply darker shading to the body using a mini applicator.  1.  Pro Tip:  I applied the light colored ink to the whole body to add moisture to the paper so when the brown ink was applied it blends more easily.  You can start with with dry cream cardstock but the brown ink doesn’t flow over the dry paper as well and can get blotchy.  2.  Pro Tip:  I cannot stress enough how much easier it is to apply and blend inks using the Sofft Mini Applicators because they are such high quality.
  • Attach the harness sections and the red Rudolph nose to the reindeer using glossy accents.

Finish The Santa Scene Card

  • Cut a length of metallic gold string long enough to double up for the reins.
  • Fold the string in half and attach the folded section to the reindeer and attach on the back with glue dots.
  • Trim the string ends as necessary to fit and attach to the back of the sleigh using glue dots.
  • Apply a large piece of mounting tape to the back of the Santa’s sleigh and attach to the card.
  • Cut two large pieces of mounting tape, attach them together, attach them to the back of the reindeer and attach him to the card.  Pro Tip:  I doubled the mounting tape for the reindeer because I wanted him to stand well away  to look like he was really flying.
