Use Glitter Glue To Make Snow On Cards!

Come see one way to use glitter glue to make snow on cards – the effect is so magical and SO easy!

I love using shades of aqua on winter cards – there’s something a touch frosty about the color and it can be such a pretty accent to a snowy look. I emphasized this blue green tint from one of the patterns in Rubbernecker’s Snowy Wonder 6×6 Paper Pad and want to show you one of the ways I use glitter glue to make snow on cards to really bring out that frosty effect.  I made my snowbanks with Rubbernecker’s Deckle Hills die set, added my trees using their Three Pine Tree Forest dies, set a sweet little creature made with their Deer Family #2 and set the whole scene in a frame made using their Rectangle Combo OPC #3 die set.

A winter card with aqua accents shows how use glitter glue to make snow on cards with the snowy banks and frosty pine trees.

Other than drying time and coloring the little deer, this card is very fast to make and with the additional of an appropriate sentiment, I think it can be used for almost any winter occasion. Let me take you through the making so you can try it out at home.

Card Base, Frame and Glitter Glue Snow Layers

  • Use white cardstock to cut an A2 sized card base three Deckle Hills snow layers.
  • Apply glitter glue to the snow layers, sprinkle with clear glitter and set aside to dry.  Pro Tip:  I find that Cosmic Shimmer glue works the best to hold glitter in place.  I love how it keeps the glitter from flaking off.  Pro Tip:  Don’t apply glue all the way to the ends of each snow layer.  Leave enough space without glitter so the layers can be attached to the frame with adhesive.  Glitter and double stick tape don’t play well together.
  • Cut a 5.50: x 4.25″ layer of designer paper from the Snowy Wonder 6×6 Paper Pad and attach it to the card base using double stick tape.
  • Use the largest die from the Rectangle Combo OPC #3 and aqua cardstock to cut the frame.
  • Apply double stick tape to the bottom and lower sides of the frame and attach the front snow layer.
  • Attach strips of mounting tape all the way around the back of the frame and attach the second and third snow layers.
  • Apply double stick tape to the back sides of the second and third snow layers and attach the frame to the card base.

The Deer

  • Cut the deer from the Deer Family #2 using white cardstock.
  • Apply a light shade of Mocha to the whole body of the deer using a mini applicator.  Note:  The picture below shows a different deer but the coloring technique is the same.

  • Apply Pecan ink to the upper body, ears and antlers using a mini applicator.
  • Heat dry the ink.

  • Apply white spots to the deer body using a white gel pen.  Note:  I know that adult deer do not have white spots.  But I couldn’t resist adding the spots to mimic the deer on the designer paper.
  • Apply a piece of mounting tape to the back of the deer, tuck it in behind the snow layer and attach to the card base.

The Glitter Glue Snowy Pine Trees

  • Cut the Three Pine Tree Forest die using aqua cardstock.
  • Apply the glitter glue, sprinkle with clear glitter and set aside to dry.  It doesn’t take long to dry.
  • Apply pieces of mounting tape on the back of the tree sections, tuck them in behind the snow layers and attach them to the card base and snow layers.
  • Use white cardstock to cut the tiny star from the Christmas Mini set and attach it to the tree using glossy accents.

This is, of course, just one way to use glitter glue to make snow on cards. Because of the even smooth application of the glitter glue, it lends itself perfectly to broader areas where you want to add that gorgeous frosty sparkle that looks like real snow. And with this paper, well, I think this card deserves a chef’s kiss!

  1. Lovely card. I see you use the Deckle hills die a lot on your cards and link to rubbernecker to buy it…but it’s never been in stock in all the while I’ve been looking at your cards. Where can i buy it?
