Beach Pop Up Card

Summer is here and I had so much fun making this beach pop up card with all of these iconic beach images.  I used the new Rubbernecker Lifeguard Tower, Beach Umbrellas, Woody Die and Palm Trees paired with the Beach Chairs, Waves, Deckle Hills, Sun Moon, Knob Top Fence (turned upside down), Grass #2 and Small Birds.  I used The Paper Cut Square Pop Up Box Card kit for the base of my card.

Come see how I made this bright beach pop up card.

The Box Base and Layers

  • Use the bone folder to reinforce all the score lines .
  • Cut the designer paper layering pieces.
  • Apply double stick tape to the back of all the layering pieces and attach to the inside back cover and flaps and the outside sections of the box sections.
  • Apply double stick tape to the side insert flap, line the box sides up and attach the two ends together to form the box.
  • Cut wave and sand insert sections using blue and Kraft cardstock.  Cut, score both ends at 1/2″ in.
  • Fold the wave and sand insert tabs, apply double stick tape to each tab and insert the tabs to the inside of the box.
  • Attach sand layers to the box flaps using double stick tape.
  • Note:  The kit comes with three inserts for each box.  I used five strips instead of three to create a fuller looking water and sand area in the box opening.

Come see how I made this colorful beach pop up card.

Assemble the Die Cut Images

  • Assemble the lifeguard tower pieces using mounting tape and glossy accents and attach to the card base using mounting tape.
  • Assemble the Woody pieces using glossy accents and mounting tape and attach to the sand section using glossy accents.
  • Use glossy accents to assemble the palm trees and attach them to the card base using glossy accents and mounting tape.
  • Attach the sun to the card base using glossy accents.
  • Cut the chairs and tuck them in between the sand layers and attach using mounting tape.
  • Use glossy accents to attach the white umbrella layers to the red and attach to the front flap using mounting tape.
  • Cut one fence section into four pieces, tuck them in behind the sand sections and attach using glossy accents. Note: I turned the fence upside down and trimmed the bottom layer using my deckle scissors to make it appear more rustic like an old fence.

The Finishing Touches

  • Attach a yellow surf board to the left flap area  and a red and white hand cut ball to the right flap using mounting tape.
  • Attach sprigs of grass in between the sand sections using glossy accents.
  • Create a towel by cutting thin strips of red cardstock and attach them to white cardstock using glossy accents.   Fringe the ends using snips and attach it to the chair using glue dots.
  • Finish by attaching flying birds to the sky area of the flaps using mounting tape.

Come see how I made this fun beach pop up card.

This beach pop up box card was so much fun to make.  Sadly,  the pictures didn’t show off the waves in the correct color and don’t really do the card justice.  That just seems to be how it goes with me and photography.  I should probably go and take lessons.  Thanks for coming by and I hope you have a great day.

Woody and Surfboard Beach Card

Making this Woody and surfboard beach card with the new dies by Rubbernecker was so much fun.  I used the new Woody, Palm Trees and surfboards from the Lifeguard Tower set paired with the Waves, Deckle Hills, Sun Moon, Grass #2 and Small Birds. Those high waves look perfect for surfing.

Come see how I made this woody and surfboard beach card.

The Card Base, Waves and Sand

  • Sponge on a light layer of clouds on the card base using an ink blending tool, cloud template and Tumbled Glass ink.
  • Cut three sections of waves and two sand layers.
  • Apply white embossing paste to the waves by dabbing it on with your finger or flat stylus.
  • Sprinkle clear glitter on the embossing paste while it is still wet.
  • Apply Antique Linen ink to the sand layers using the ink pad direct to paper.
  • Attach the three wave layers to the card base using double stick tape.
  • Apply small pieces of mounting tape along the back of each wave to pop it up slightly from the card base.
  • Attach the back sand layer to the card base using double stick tape and the front sand layer using strips of mounting tape.

Come see how I made this sunny woody and surfboard beach card.

The Woody

  • Use blue, gray, white, black and woodgrain cardstock to cut the woody.
  • Attach the woodgrain sections back in the frame using double stick tape.
  • Line up the woodgrain frame and attach it to the car base using glossy accents.
  • Lightly apply Antique Linen ink to the woodgrain panel using a mini applicator.
  • Assemble the wheels, attaching the pieces together using glossy accents and attach them to the car base using glossy accents.
  • Apply mounting tape to the back of the fenders and attach them to the car base.
  • Use glossy accents to attach the bumpers and trim pieces.  Hint:  I use my reverse tweezers from my Garden Tool Kit when working with small pieces.
  • Cut the surfboard using bright yellow cardstock, color both ends with an orange marker and attach to the top of the car.
  • Attach the Woody to the sand layer using pieces of mounting tape.

The Palm Trees and Sun

  • Use green and Kraft cardstock to cut the palm tree sections.
  • Apply Vintage Photo ink to the coconuts and tree trunks.
  • Attach the palm fronds and coconuts to the trunk using glossy accents.
  • Tuck the trees in behind the sand layers and attach to the card base using pieces of mounting tape.
  • Cut the sun using bright yellow cardstock , apply sparkle using a shimmer pen and attach to the card base using mounting tape.

Finish the Woody and Surfboard Beach Card

  • Use green cardstock to cut the grass sprigs and tuck them in behind the sand layers and attach using glossy accents.
  • Use bright yellow and orange cardstock to cut two surfboards. Color the top of the yellow board using an orange marker.
  • Tuck the surfboards in behind the sand layers and attach using mounting tape.
  • Cut the birds using white cardstock, color the wings using a gray marker and attach them to the card base for the finishing touch using tiny pieces of mounting tape.

Come see how I made this fun woody and surfboard beach card.

There will be more Woody and surfboard beach cards in the future as I love making them.  It’s been in the mid to high 90s here in Florida the last couple of weeks and perfect weather for the beach.  I hope you have been inspired to get out your beach dies and make a summer scene card of your own.  Here is a link to Woody beach cards on Pinterest if you would like more inspiration.  Thanks for coming by.

Beach Z Fold Box Card

I had so much fun making this beach Z Fold Box card.  I love creating cards with dimension and the z fold card layout provides so many opportunities. I used the new Rubbernecker Woody, Lifeguard Tower and Palm Trees paired the Waves, Deckle HillsSun Moon, Grass #2 and Small Birds.  The base was made using The Paper Cut Easel Card Kit.

Come see how I made this beach z fold box card.

The Card Base and Waves

  • Apply clouds to the card base using a cloud stencil, ink blending tool and Tumbled Glass ink.
  • Cut wave sections to fit across the back section of the card base  and in the box sections using aqua cardstock.
  • Layer two 5.50″ sections to the back of the card base using double stick tape.
  • Cut four waves layers 1.50″ x 3.75″, score at .50″ on each end.
  • Cut one sand layer 1.50″ x 3.75″, score at .50″ on each end.
  • Apply double stick tape on both ends of the wave and sand layers and set aside.

The Sand Layers and Wave Box

  • Cut two 11″ sand layers to fit across the whole card base. Place an 11″ piece of cardstock on cutting platform, place the deckle die at one end of the cardstock and cut.  Place the deckle die at the end of the first cut, line up the ends and cut a second time.
  • Apply Antique Linen ink to the sand layers by swiping the ink pad directly over the cardstock and quick dry with the heat gun.
  • Attach the two sand layers together using double stick tape.
  • Score the sand layers at 5.50″ and 8.25″ used a bone folder create a sharp crease on both folds.

Palm Trees and Woody Beach Card

Today I’m sharing another palm trees and Woody beach card using several dies by Rubbernecker Stamps.   I’ve posted several cards using these same dies over the last month or so but I just can’t seem to help myself from making more.  You can click here and here if you would like to more examples using the new beach dies.

Lots of people comment that making layered cards like this would be way too difficult for them.  In reality this kind of card is very easy to make and just requires building layers for the sand and waves and attaching them to the card base.  Beyond that you can tuck any die cut mages you like between the layers to add interest to your scene.  I love how big and bold the palm trees are and how they create a great point of interest on both sides of the card and yet still allows the Woody to be the main focal image. The birds, grass and flowers add additional color and interest to the scene and the big sun draws the eye up and fills space on the right side of the card to balance out the two large trees on the left.  I would love it if you would share links in the comment section below to beach cards you have made recently.  It’s always fun to get inspiration from each other.

For this card I used the Nested Deckle Rectangles, Nested Rectangles, Deckle Hills, Waves, Woody, Palm Trees, Grass #2, Small Birds, Sun Moon, Lifeguard Tower (surfboard)  and Tiny Flower Buds.

Come see how I made this palm trees and woody beach card.

The Frame, Sand, Waves and Cloud Background

  • Use Tumbled Glass ink, a cloud stencil and ink blending tool to create the cloudy sky background to the card base.
  • Cut the frame using white cardstock and the Nested Deckle and Nested Rectangle dies.
  • Use Kraft cardstock and Deckle Hills to cut the sand layers and aqua cardstock to cut the waves layers.
  • Apply Antique Linen ink directly to the sand layers using the direct pad to paper technique.
  • Attach the two waves layers and one sand layer to the card base using double stick tape.
  • Apply double stick tape to the back lower portion of the frame and attach the second sand layer.
  • Apply thin strips of mounting tape around the back side of the frame and attach it to the card base.

Come see how I made this sunny palm trees and woody beach card.

The Palm Trees

  • Cut the palm tree trunks using Kraft cardstock and the palm fronds using green cardstock.
  • Apply Vintage Photo ink to the trunks using a mini applicator.
  • Attach the palm fronds to the trunks using glossy accents.
  • Apply thin strips of mounting tape to the back of the palm trees, tuck them in between the sand layers and attach to the card base.

The Woody

  • Cut the Woody using yellow cardstock and the wood side panel section using woodgrain cardstock.
  • Use gray, yellow and black cardstock to cut the wheels and tires.
  • Cut the trim pieces using gray cardstock.
  • Attach the woodgrain section to the car base using glossy accents.
  • Use rolled up double stick tape to attach the front and back fenders to the car base.
  • Assemble and attach the tire and wheel sections using glossy accents and attach them to the car base using glossy accents.
  • Attach the trim and bumper pieces to the car using glossy accents.
  • Apply mounting tape to the back of the car and attach it to the frame.

The Scene Accessories

  • Cut grass sprigs using green cardstock.
  • Tuck the sprigs in between the sand layers and attach in place using glossy accents.
  • Use yellow cardstock to cut tiny flowers, add a touch of orange to the centers.
  • Place the flowers on the molding pad and form them using the small tipped stylus.
  • Apply glossy accents to the flowers and attach them to the grass sprigs.
  • Cut the birds using white cardstock, apply wing marks using a gray marker and attach them to the sky area using small pieces of mounting tape.
  • Cut the sun using yellow cardstock, apply sparkle using a shimmer pen and attach to the card base using mounting tape.
  • Finish the card by adding a surf board to the top of the Woody and a larger board (cut from the Lifeguard Stand) in between the sand layers.  Note:  I use markers to draw the palm trees and ocean on the surfboard.  The little scene shows up way to dark in the photos but is really prettier in person.

Come see how I made this colorful palm trees and woody beach card.

Okay!  The question …..how many different ways can I make a palm trees and Woody beach card?  The answer……it doesn’t matter to me because I like making them over and over again and just changing up the color combinations, die placements and card layouts makes it fun. I’ve used all of these images on pop up box cards, Z fold cards and regular A2 card layouts.  It gives me lots of pleasure to create them and that is what paper crafting is all about.  How about you?  Do you like making beach cards?  Please feel free to link one or more of your beach cards in the comments below.  I love getting inspiration from others and sharing ideas.

Thanks for coming by today and I hope your are enjoying this holiday weekend.

Beach Scene with Vintage Woody

My project today is a beach scene with vintage woody card made for Dare To Get Dirty Day 4 of the Splitcoaststampers Dare To Get Dirty week long challenge event. This event is a special thank you to all of the fan club members who support the site all year long. Have you had a desire to be on the Dirty Dozen design team? This special week of challenges will give you tons of opportunity to be inspired and to show off your wonderful and creative projects right along with the current Dirty Dozen team as well as the alumni team members.  Are you a member of the Splitcoaststampers Fan Club? If not go here to check out all the benefits of being a member. If you are a member hop right on over the special challenge forum here.

Come see how I made this beach scene with vintage woody card.

The Beach Scene

  • Cut the scene base using the Nested Deckle Rectangle and white cardstock.
  • Apply an Eclipse tape all the way around the outer border of the base to create a mask.
  • Apply Antique Linen ink to the sand area and Tumbled Glass ink to the water area using a stylus and foam tip.
  • Create the cloud sky area using a cloud stencil and ink blending tool.
  • Sketch in the sea oats using a green marker and then add touches of Vintage Photo ink on the sand at the base of the oats.
  • Use your finger to apply touches of white embossing paste to the water area and the edge of the sand by dabbing gently.
  • Apply clear glitter to the embossing paste while it is still wet.
  • Attach the beach scene layer to the blue layer using mounting tape and attach both to the card base using double stick tape.

The Woody

  • Cut the Woody parts using woodgrain, green, black, white, orange and gray cardstock.
  • Apply Rusty Hinge and Vintage Photo ink to the green card sections using mini applicators to create the appearance of rust and age.
  • Attach the woodgrain section to the car using glossy accents.
  • Apply mounting tape to the fenders and attach them to the car base.
  • Assemble the tire and wheel sections, attach them together using glossy accents and then attach to the car using glossy accents.
  • Attach the orange surfboard to the top of the car using glossy accents.
  • Apply pieces of mounting tape to the back of the Woody and attach it to the scene base.
  • Finish by cutting three flying birds, apply Pumice Stone ink to the wings using a mini applicator and attach them to the sky area using pieces of mounting tape.

Come see how I made this summer beach scene with vintage woody card.

This beach scene with vintage Woody is not quite as detailed with dimensional parts and pieces as I usually make but I liked the simplicity of it.  The sparkly ocean in the background is pretty and the birds in the sky draw the eye up but the Woody is still the main focal point.  It’s fun to add age and rust to the car image so it doesn’t look so perfect.  Have you tried making sea foam on your beach scenes with white embossing paste and glitter.  It’s really very easy and yet the outcome is so pretty.   Thanks for coming by and I hope you have a great day.
