Masculine Card with Deer and Birch Trees

It is not always easy to come up with ideas  for a masculine card.  I usually turn to some kind of nature theme scene with animals and trees.  Deer are my favorite to use.  For this project I used the Rubbernecker Birch Forest, Deer Family, Birds, Spring Leaves, Grass, Grass #2, Flower Buds and Flower Stems.

Coming up with ideas for a masculine card is not always easy. Come see how I made this deer and birch card using dies by Rubbernecker.

The Card Base and Blue Background

  • Cut an A2 sized white card base.
  • Use white cardstock to cut a scene base to fit behind the tree panel.
  • Apply a blue sky background using a blender brush and Tumbled Glass ink.
  • Cut the blue sky background layer to fit behind the Birch Forest Panel.
  • Attach the blue background layer to the card base using ATG adhesive.

The Birch, Leaves and Grass Layers

  • Cut the birch tree panel using white cardstock.
  • Cut the leaves and three grass layers using green cardstock.
  • Use a mini applicator to apply touches of Pumice Stone ink to the notches on the birch trees.
  • Attach the tiny small leaves to the birch tree branches using glossy accents.
  • Use ATG adhesive to attach one grass layer to the blue background.
  • Apply mounting tape to the back of the birch frame and attach it to the blue scene layer.
  • Attach one grass layer flat to the front of the birch trees using ATG adhesive.
  • Use a strip of mounting tape to attach the second grass layer to the front of the scene.
  • Cut two Grass #2 sections and tuck the sprigs in behind the grass layers and attach using glossy accents.

Color the Deer

  • Cut the deer using white cardstock.
  • Use a mini applicator to apply a light layer of Antique Linen ink over the deer body.
  • Apply darker shades of brown using a mini applicator and Vintage Photo ink.
  • Check out my Coloring Animals tutorial to see step by step photos of how I applied color to the deer.

Complete the Masculine Card

  • Cut the birds and flower buds using red cardstock and the flower stems using green cardstock.
  • Form the flowers using a small tipped stylus and molding pad and attach them to the flower stems using glossy accents.
  • Color the beaks of the birds using a black marker.
  • Attach a double layer of mounting tape to the back of the deer, tuck it in behind the grass layer and attach to the card base.
  • Apply small pieces of mounting tape to the back of the two birds and attach to the tree trunks.
  • Finish by tucking the flower stems and a few extra grass sprigs in behind the grass and attach using glossy accents.
  • Note:  The red birds and flowers add small touches of color and interest to scene without taking away from the masculine theme.

I have no idea how often I have made a masculine card with a deer and tree theme.  Check out my Birch Tree and Deer Scene to see the same dies used for a winter themed card and my Woodland Deer Scene using a mother and baby deer.  Pinterest has tons of masculine card ideas for inspiration.  I appreciate you coming by today and I hope you have a good Sunday.

Woody and Christmas Tree

Good Saturday morning.  I have a fun Woody and Christmas tree card to share with you today.  When I opened the Simple Stories-Merry and Bright designer paper and saw the cars with the Christmas trees I instantly thought of the Rubbernecker Woody Stamp and Woody Die.  I created the ground snow using the Deckle Hills and frame the scene using the Rectangle Combo #2 die.  I used the Greenery set to create the tree and Tiny Leaves for the holly embellishment.

Come see how I made this Woody and Christmas tree card.

The Woody

  • Secure the watercolor paper and stamp in the MISTI and stamp the image two times using Versafine Clair Nocturne and heat set.
  • Water color the first car using Barn Door, Fired Brick, Antique Linen,Vintage Photo  and Pumice Stone reinker along with water and a brush.
  • Cut the tire portion of the Woody off the painted car.
  • Trim the body of the second car away leaving only the tire portion.
  • Attach the painted Woody to the tire section of the second car using mounting tape.
  • Add some sparkle to the windows of the Woody using a clear overlay pen.

Come see how I made this fun Woody and Christmas tree card.

The Tree

  • Cut a thin piece of cardstock using green cardstock to use as the tree base.
  • Cut two sets of the Greenery and trim off the individual branches.
  • Attach the single branches to the tree base using glossy accents and continue to fill in the tree.
  • Attach the tree to the top of the Woody using glossy accents.
  • Apply the white embossing paste to the tree using a small spatula to create the appearance of snow.

The Frame and Snow Layer

  • Cut the frame and snow layer using white cardstock.
  • Apply double stick tape to the lower back portion of the frame and attach the snow layer.
  • Apply thin strips of mounting tape to the back of the frame and attach it to the card base.
  • Apply double stick tape to the back of the woody and mounting tape to the back of the tree and attach to the snow layer and card base.
  • Finish by adding two holly leaves to the car door and a tiny red bow to the trunk of the tree.
  • Apply red punched circles to the holly leaves using glossy accents and accent them using red stickles.

Come see how I made this festive Woody and Christmas tree card.

I hope you have enjoyed seeing my Woody and Christmas tree.  I promise I will not be showing another Christmas tree on a project for a while.  LOL!  Three days in a row is enough.  Be sure and hop over to see the Black Friday Sale going on over at Rubbernecker Stamps.  There are lots of stamps and dies on sale with great discounts. Thanks for coming by and I hope you are enjoying your weekend.

Impression Obsession Fall Winter Die Release

Good Monday morning.  I have really enjoyed playing with the new Impression Obsession fall winter die release.  I always love it when they release scenic dies that can be used for masculine cards.  My first project was made using the new Spotted Deer Frame layered over the Tree Frame with stamped Fir Trees in the background.  I embellished the card using Cardinals, Pine Sprig Clusters and framed it using the All-in-One Frames Rectangles 2.

Come see how I made this deer card for the Impression Obsession Fall Winter Die Release.

The Layered Tree Frames and Background

  • Cut the All-in-One Rectangle Frame, Spotted Deer Frame and Tree Frame using Kraft cardstock.
  • Trim off the deer and set aside
  • Apply the Antique Linen ink pad directly on the frames and then follow by applying the Vintage Photo ink pad directly on the frames.
  • Cut two ground snow sections.
  • Cut two ground snow sections.
  • Apply double stick tape to the lower back of rectangle frame and attach one ground snow section.
  • Apply double stick tape all the way around the back of the frame and attach the Spotted Deer Frame.
  • Apply thin strips of mounting tape to the back of the Spotted Deer Frame and attach the Tree Frame.  The double mounting tape layers will help add dimension to the scene.
  • Secure the blue card base and fir tree in the MISTI and stamp the tree background using Peeled Paint ink.  I stamped each tree twice for darker coverage.
  • Apply double stick tape to the back of the frames and attach it to the card base.

Finish the Scene

  • Color the deer using mini applicators and Antique Linen and Vintage Photo ink.
  • Attach the second snow ground piece to the front of the frame using double stick tape.
  • Apply glossy accents to the back of the deer legs and tuck them in behind the front snow and attach legs to the back snow piece.
  • Cut cardinals using red cardstock and apply black to the beaks using a black Copic marker.
  • Apply small pieces of mounting tape to the back of each cardinal and attach them in the branches and on the ground snow.
  • Finish by apply glossy accents to the pine sprigs and tucking them in behind the front snow section.

My second project is a 3 x 3 gift card made using the Squirrel Circle set and Tiny Single Leaves.  This is a small set and perfect to use for gift cards or tags.

Come see how I made this fall squirrel gift card for the Impression Obsession Fall Winter Die Release.

Cutting and Coloring the Squirrel Circles

  • Cut both the tree layer and squirrel layer using 2.50″ squares of white cardstock.
  • Cut a small white ground section using deckle scissors and color it with a mini applicator and Peeled Paint ink.
  • Color the  trees and squirrel using mini applicators and Antique Linen and Vintage Photo ink.
  • Apply a swatch of color on a piece of white scrap cardstock using mini applicators and Fired Brick and Spiced Marmalade.
  • Cut the tiny leaves out of the swatch of colored cardstock.
  • Trim around the tree background layer to make it fit well behind the front circle frame.
  • Apply double stick tape to the small green ground layer and attach in front of the trees.
  • Apply strips of mounting tape to the back of the Squirrel layer, line it up directly over the tree layer and attach.
  • Apply mounting tape to the back of the framed layers and attach it to the blue card base.
  • Finish the scene by attaching the tiny leaves to the branches and ground area using glossy accents.
