Apple Coloring Tutorial

My project today was made using the Tree Frame, Bushel of Apples, Tiny Apples, Grass Border, Leaves and Stems and Bird set.

I wanted to make my apples look realistic instead of perfectly red, green or yellow. I tried a little experiment to randomly color my cardstock before cutting the apples and I liked how it worked and thought I would share a few step by steps of how I did it.

Add a few drops of fired brick and shabby shutters reinker to a small piece of Cut-n-Dry stamp pad foam being careful to not let the ink overlap each other.

Dab the foam around on the cardstock to apply the ink.

smooth the ink out by swiping the pad back and forth.

Emboss with clear embossing powder to brighten the colors. If your ink is still really wet you can apply powder directly on the ink. If the ink has become too dry then heat dry, apply versa and then emboss.

Heat the powder and see the gorgeous pop of color.

I love the randomness of the red and green ink on the apples.

I started the scene by sponging in a light blue sky on the white card base. I didn’t use a cloud template to create clouds because I just wanted the blue to show through.

I cut the tree frame using light brown cardstock and applied brown ink on the trunk and branches with a mini applicator. I attached several of the stems of leaves to the branches with glossy accents. I applied the glue on the front of each stem and tucked the stem in behind the branches so there were no ugly stem ends sticking out.

I cut a red frame and attached the tree frame to the back of it with mounting tape. I attached another layer of mounting tape to the back of the frame, tree trunk and branches. I attached the grass border to the bottom section of tape, applied ATG adhesive along the back of the grass and then attached the frame to the card base. I attached all the tiny apples to the tree branches using my tweezers and glossy accents. Whew! Talk about working with small pieces. LOL!

I assembled the baskets and apples attaching them together with glossy accents. I applied mounting tape to the back of each basket and tucked them in to the scene. I added a few extra apples on the ground and a few stems of leaves in the grass for the perfect finishing touch.
