Color Wash Hydrangea and Blog Candy

Good Monday morning. Before I start with my project I want to offer you a chance to win ribbon blog candy. Who doesn’t love ribbon!!! Those of you that follow my blog know how much I love to shop at Ellen Hutson.  With an order here and there I ended up with twelve of those wonderful one yard packages of May Arts satin ribbon “Thank You” gifts that Ellen tucks into each order.  All you have to do to be entered into my random drawing is leave a comment on this post.  You will have until 5:00 pm on Thursday the 17th to leave your comment.  I will announce the winner on Friday the 18th.

I have another color wash project to share with you today.  I wanted to use my Taylored Expressions Quatrefoil Cutting Plate and thought it would be such a perfect background for a puffy hydrangea. The stem and leaves are from the Impression Obsession Hydrangea set.

I used the negative cutouts from the quatrefoil die cut.  I color washed all the pieces with water and undiluted pink reinker and heat dried with my heat gun. I color washed the stem and leaves using light green reinker and heat dried. I thought that the quatrefoil design would show better with a colored background so I ran my piece of cardstock under the faucet and used a waterbrush to apply reinker and spread it quickly while the paper was still very wet. I dried it with my heat gun and adhered it to the card base.

I formed the petals with my stylus and molding pad and I attached one flower inside the other with glossy accents to create a section of blossoms. I created twelve blossoms and attached them to the color washed hydrangea background from the die set. I used my leaf tool and leaf pad to score veins on the leaves. Here’s a closer view of the hydrangea and leaves.

I applied thin strips of mounting tape to the edges of the quatrefoil layer and one larger piece under the area where the hydrangea would sit and attached it to the card base.  I attached the hydrangea, stem and leaves with glossy accents. I love the variation in the color of the blossoms.  We will be sending this to my mother-in-law for Easter. I think she’ll love it.

  4. Hi Kittie,
What an amazing card! Thank you! I was laughing to myself when you said, ‘who doesn’t like ribbon’. Ribbon is another one of my addictions- I will buy it and then not want to use it because it is too pretty 🙂

  5. I have only recently bought a Cuttlebug, I went searching for a way to make my own letters and numbers and was amazed to discover a whole new world. I found your website and have been enchanted with your cards: what a wonderful imagination you have. I love the hydrangea, flowers always cheer me up. We don’t seem to be well-supplied here in England with dies and sometimes it’s a struggle to buy them since our suppliers have to import all the time. I check your site every day, by the way.

and I want to tell you how much you have inspired me to use my dies for so much more than I had been. I actually made my first white on white card a few weeks ago, which I would have never done if you hadn’t inspired me to do so! (even though you have no idea who I am! grins!)

  20. Fab looking hydrangea (fab use of the negative space) and the leaves look real! Whenever I use water & then dry my card it tends to crinkle but this looks great.
