Good Friday morning. Hang on to your hat because my post today is long with lots of step by steps photos. Have you seen the new Impression Obsession Gift Card Pocket and Gift Card Foldover die sets? The two sets are made to coordinate with each other but they are both stand alone sets. I’ve had a few questions about how to work with these sets so I put together a tutorial that I think will be helpful. The wonderful thing about gift card holder dies is that you can definitely use them over and over again. They may seem like an expensive investment but their uses are endless for gift giving events all year long and year after year.
Gift Card Pocket
White Cardstock, 1/4” Double Stick Tape, Teflon Bone Folder
The Gift Card Pocket has two die cut sentiments-Happy Holiday and Seasons Greetings but you can use the pocket with or without the sentiments.
1. Line up the pocket die and sentiment on your die cutting platform.
2. The pocket die has built in score lines for folding. Fold over the score lines and use your bone folder to create a crisp fold. I always use my Teflon bone folder because it never leaves shiny spots on the cardstock. If you don’t have one I highly recommend you put it on your Santa’s wish list. It is worth it’s weight in gold.
3. Apply double stick tape on the outer edges of the side folds.
4. Fold the sides in and attach the back of the folder to create the pocket.
5. I used the Gift Card Foldover die to create a holder for my gift card and it fits perfectly inside the pocket.
I like to add decorative elements to gift cards. It makes it look more like a gift rather than just an envelope with a gift card in it. I thought a poinsettia with some pine would look pretty. I wanted to keep the elements small so they wouldn’t cover up the sentiment.
Decorate the Pocket
Green Pine Sprigs, Small red Poinsettias-3 Red and 1 Green, Pearl, Garden Tool Kit- Large and Small Stylus, Molding Pad
1. Place the flowers face down on the molding pad and use the large stylus to push in the petals to round them up.
2. Place the flowers face up and push down in the center with the small stylus to push the petals up.
3. Apply a dot of glossy accents to the center of the green flower and attach the three red flowers. Make sure to offset the layers so the flower has a more natural appearance.
4. Apply glossy accents to the tip ends of the pine sprigs and attach them to the corner of the pocket. Continue adding pine to create a nice base for the flower. Alternate the curves of the pine to add a more natural shape.
5. Apply a good amount of glossy accents to the back of the poinsettia and attach it to the pine base.
6. Once the poinsettia is placed use your paper piercer to go in under the top petals and push down on the green base of the flower to secure it.
Decorated Gift Card Foldover
The Gift Card Foldover can be used like I did above as a simple holder for a gift card. But this set comes with two sentiments- A Gift For You and Birthday Wishes. The beauty of having both the Gift Card Foldover and Gift Card Pocket is that all four sentiments are sized to work with both. I chose to create a holiday gift card with the A Gift For You sentiment and added a simple bow treatment with some holly sprigs with red berries to dress it up a little.
Red Gift Card Fold Over, White Back Layer- 3.75” x 2.50”, Green Holly Sprigs, 1/8” Red Punched Circles, Glossy Accents, White Ribbon, Round Corner Punch, 1.4” Double Stick Tape, Glue Dots
1. Line the die and sentiment up on the die cutting platform.
2. Cut a piece of white cardstock 3.75” x 2.50” to fit on the inside of the foldover. I used my corner rounder punch to round the corners.
3. Apply double stick tape to the top and bottom inside of the foldover and attach the white layer.
4. Apply a small ribbon around the holder and tie off with a knot at the top corner. Apply glossy accents to the little red berries and attach to the holly sprigs. Attach the sprigs of holly to the corner of the foldover with glossy accents to create a base for the bow just like in the Gift Card Pocket project. Create a small multi loop bow and attach it to the top corner using glue dots. Oh….and make sure you insert your gift card before you tie your ribbon. LOL! I hope this hasn’t been too long of a post for you. I thought it would be worth while to show both of the gift card sets and how they can be used apart and together. I love using old-fashioned pine and holly to decorate my cards and package for Christmas and red, green and white are my favorite Christmas colors. I love seeing how you shape flowers and especially the poinsettias. I try but mine never seem to get the same dimension as yours. Practice, practice, practice I guess! lol
These little card holders are a fine idea! We often give gift cards or money for Christmas since I never know what to give the younger kids any more (They usually know exactly what they want so they never mind!) but I like to do something special to make it seem like some care and effort went into the gift and I am not just taking the lazy way out.
