The color challenge on Splitcoaststampers today was to use Real Red, Ballet Blue and Apricot Appeal. All I could think of was this cute little chick from the Rubbernecker- Baby Collection painted with apricot and using a little red for his cheeks. I started by stamping the image on watercolor paper and sketching in the little background trees and sprigs of grass with the little hidden eggs. I painted the eggs with the three colors of the challenge and then lightly painted the grass sprigs with artichoke. For those of you that have trouble knowing which colors to use together I highly recommend a color wheel. Of course, the blue, red and apricot are probably not on the wheel together but I chose the coordinating green to match the ballet blue. Funny…it ended up that was not the major color for the scene. I painted my little trees and use a mini fern stamp for the leaves. I used a dry brush inked up directly on the ink pad to add color in a stipple motion to the ground area. I painted my little chick and sketched a little Easter basket for him to collect his eggs for the hunt. When I was through adding color to the scene I used a sponge and filled in the sky area with apricot. I know these colors are not what you would normally think of for Easter…well at least I have never seen a bright red or blue egg but I love the way the colors just seem to pop together. Can you find all the eggs?
