Freshcut Inspiration

The Inspiration Challenge today on SCS has a beautiful quilt and fabrics to stir our creative juices.  I loved all three of the inspiration pictures but was especially fond of the quilt. .

I looked at the quilt for a few minutes and decided that I could recreate that look by creating faux layers by masking with Nestabilities scalloped squares.  I cut out three different sizes to work with as well as keeping the negatives.  I used a pencil and ruler to divide my square white paper into four equal squares. I used Tombow removal adhesive  on the back of my scalloped pieces to hold them in place.  I started by placing the largest scalloped squares evenly on the cardstock.  I stamped a small flower from a retired SU set -Topiary in Adirondack Salmon, Lemonade and Aqua and followed by stamping a small leaf from Wee Watercolors with Distress Shabby Shutters.  When complete I sponged the whole area with Lemonade ink. I removed the masks and repeated the steps with the other two sizes of scalloped squares working in and creating my quilt.  I used a greenery image from Topiary as well as a large rose from Watercolor Minis to recreate the full image background to represent the quilt in our inspiration piece. I used a large needle and my paper piecing template to create the faux stitching holes around the quilt area and then added faux stitch lines with Inkssentials white pen.  I thought white eyelet would be the perfect border between the quilt and the Papertrey Berry Sorbet main card layer. I used my scalloped scissors to cute all four sides and then pierced the borders to create an eyelet effect.  I have just fallen in love with the look of white eyelet and it is so easy to do and adds to much to a card.  I created a little folded tag with Nestabilites dies and thought it would look cute hanging from one of the corner ribbons.  This was quite a bit of work but was so much fun and full of wonderful relief to shake off the past week’s work stresses.

  1. WOW Kittie! This looks like SO much work – it is SO beautiful. I think I like your quilt better than the inspiration piece!!! You are so talented. I am not sure I could have figured that all out!!!!

  2. All I can say is WOWZA Kittie. You had my head spinning. I would have had to take an aspirin after that whole process. As always, you’re an inspiration.
Oh, by the way, I’ve been meaning to tell you that everyone that received your apple butter recipe has been raving about it. Thanks again for all your help
