The Technique Lovers Challenge on SCS today is to make a scenic diorama card. You can find a link to a great tutorial here on how to create a card like this. I am very challenged when it comes to reading and following technical directions. I finally figured this card out and really enjoyed the process. I added an extra layer of 1/2" to create just a little more waves for my boat and beach scene. If I had this card to make over I would score at 1 1/2", 1" and 1/2" to create a little closer layers. I chose to work with images from the Beach Party collection on Rubbernecker. I knew the tiny sailboat off in the distant water would be fun to see through the layer openings. The lighthouse and dune fence was the perfect front for the card. I stamped all the images and colored with a blender pen. I added sand and water using a jumbo sponge dauber and then used the darling wave image in the collection. I created the sky with my cloud template and a dauber. I added Liquid Applique to all the wave layers to add a touch of white caps to the scene. I used a craft knife to cut out the top openings of the fence with a craft knife so you could see through a little better. I did cut away the bottom part of the front layer circles to accommodate the fence. My final little touch was to add bird images from the collection and the old wooden directional sign pointing the way to the beach, cliffs and resort. I took my photo with a light shining down into the card and allowing the front to be a little darker so you could see all the way back. What a fun project.

I could not live without my paper cutter! I definately use it on every project. Whether card creating or scrpbooking, or even altering an item, you can see the work of my paper cutter on it!

Wow, Kittie, this card is breathtaking, but then again most of yours are to me!! I love the scene you made with these. The tool I probably cannot live without would be my hole punch (as I LOVE to use brads). If colored pencils were a tool– that would definitely be first though. I LOVE my prismas. 🙂 Kel

My favorite tool is a pair of sharp scissors. My kindergarten teacher must have complimented my cutting abilities because I have always liked cutting paper. Even in H.S. sewing class, I didn’t like to sew but enjoyed cutting the fabric pattern.
Definitely have to say my embossing gun!

My favorite, can’t live without, tool is my Tonic paper cutter. I never make a bad cut with this wonderful tool.

I can’t live without my MM cutter now that I’ve gotten it but then it would be a toss up between it & my Prisma pencils. It would be a really tough choice.

Love your card. Just a couple more weeks and we will be at the beach!!!! My favorite tool would be my paper cutter. I took a class last night and she showed us how to use reinkers in several different techniques so that will be one of my next purchases.
I couldn’t function without my Fiskars paper cutter, and am fast becoming a Scor-Pal addict.
I love all my *tools* but I could not LIVE nor PERFORM without my paper cutter ((don’t know the correct *term* for it but I’m sure all the stamper/scrappers know what I mean)). I can’t cut a straight line if my life depended on it so it is a life-saver for me and I use it constantly :0) Whoever invented it deserves a HUGE HUG from me =)

My favorite tool is the exacto knife. I use it all the time in place of a paper trimmer, to cut out detailed images, and just simply to move rhinestones and such around. Can’t scrap without it!
“New cutters come and new cutters go, but Fiskars lives forever.” I have tried so many “new and improved” cutting systems, but I always go back to my old 12″ gray Fiskars. It works so well, as long as you have a sharp blade in it, and doesn’t require the user to have a degree in rocket science just to figure it out. So, THATS the tool I can’t and won’t live without!
Kittie – great card – I love your scenes! You are such a huge inspiration to me. I’d say my Tombow adhesive tape thingy as it makes putting cards together fast but I as I thought about it, my computer has changed how I make cards. I never would have made my “Kari just moved” card without the inspiration of your work with Loads of Love. I’d say it actually turned out to be one of my best. Still searching on eBay for “Sweet Herbs” because of you!!! LOL…

Great card. Right now I’m loving my cuttlebug but the tool I can’t live without is my prismacolor pencils (with gamsol, of course). Not sure if that is considered a tool but I love the technique.
