Are any of you old enough to remember when getting dressed up meant wearing a pair of gloves? White gloves were a normal part of our Sabbath outfit when I was a young girl. Mother insisted that my three sisters and I dressed like ladies to go to church even though we were tomboys all the rest of the week. The gloves in the new Rubbernecker Fashion Icon set reminded me of how formally my mother dressed to go to church, to a doctor’s appointment or even to travel by plane. She was horrified by the lack of formality in dress during the last twenty years of her life. My fashion project is a nod to mother’s generation and the 50’s.
I stamped the images on scrap watercolor paper, colored and cut out. I was drawn to a subdued color for this project as dress clothes fifty years ago were not bright and showy. I paper pierced a simple line across the top and bottom of my panel and used a black glaze pen for the stitching. I added a little bit of texture to the purse, gloves and jacket with the glaze pen as well. I attached a small piece of gorgeous black ruffled May Arts ribbon the the border to bring softness to the tailored images. I really enjoyed stepping out of my normal comfort zone to create this project.
If you haven’t seen the new releases at Rubbernecker you should stop over and take a look. Be sure and check out the May Arts ribbon selections while you are there. The ribbon is being sold by the roll right now and will also be sold by the yard starting April 21.

Oh wow this card is SIMPLY FABULOUS! We were just talking about this yesterday. Wearing white gloves to church, hats and dressing to nines and no one does it anymore. Easter bonnets are a thing of the past for most people. I have many pictures of me all dressed up, with my white gloves on!
Absolutely gorgeous Kittie, reminds me of Audrey Hepburn!
Love your card! I remember looking forward to getting a new Easter outfit as it was the only time of the year we donned a hat, gloves, our new dress and sometimes new shoes. The rest of the year we always wore dresses to church but were less formal-no pants for women were seen in church when I was growing up. When I was going to high school in the 50’s our school didn’t allow girls to wear jeans to school!
What a wonderful card! I very clearly remember my mother dressing my sisters and I in hats and gloves to attend mass every Sunday. I also remember her dressing us to the “nines” for any air travel. Thanks for sharing the memories!
My goodness white gloves, dresses and good shoes were the only way we were allowed to dress. Easter and any church day encluded a hat as well. There were no pants worn in school in my day!
You have reminded me of a lot of things with your post and lovely card. Thanks Kitty!
I wore white gloves as a young child! I loved how grown up they made me feel!!
I love the fresh feeling of this card!! The dark blue and soft butter yellow really make those gloves *POP*!
Beautiful, Kittie!
Kittie, I just adore the look you’ve achieved with these images! The cardigan looks like an expensive boiled wool … marvelous! And thanks for reminding me of those Easter gloves! (The only time I had the pleasure!)
