Sunday’s Country Girl and Blog Candy

Check out my Stamp and Accessory Sale.

My Sunday was quiet and restful with lots of time to stamp. I love easy weekends with no commitments and no place to go.  Of course there is always laundry and household chores that have to get done but I can always paint in between trips to the washer and dryer.  I took the time to dig through the stamp sets that I have up for sale and have several that are brand new and unmounted.  I thought it was time for me to give away blog candy since I haven’t in a while. Watercoloring is my favorite technique for adding color to my stamped image.  Leave a comment on this post telling me your favorite coloring technique and you will have a chance to win Delight in Life -2007 by Stampin’ Up! I will announce the winner Wednesday morning the 16th.

I am in love with the Stampavie Sarah Kay images and especially the girls in their jeans, overalls, halter tops and big hats. I enjoy painting these images and putting them into scenes. I had a wonderful time painting Country Girl and choosing the colors and card layout that would enhance the image.

I stamped the twice, once for the main scene on watercolor paper and again on scrap watercolor paper to cut pieces out to pop up for dimension. I painted the images with reinkers and water using a watercolor brush. I watercolored the green and blue areas with a light wash and then sponged lightly over them using a Color Box stylus and foam tip. The texture of the foam tip allows me to smooth out the color on the smooth hot pressed paper. I added a little texture to the grass with a background image and smoothed over it with the foam tip to soften. I cut out the second chicken and overalls and popped them up with rolled up glue dots.  This adds so much dimension to the scene but it is hard to see in the photo. I loved the bright pink and green with the white contrast elements and feel it allows the girl to be surrounded with color without distracting from her.  I enjoy creating frames with my Nestabilities to add an extra layer of dimension and interest to the project.

  1. Hi Kittie, I too love watercolor but I am not good at it. My paper always pills, even when I use watercolor paper. I guess I probably use too much water. But it is my favorite medium anyway. Wanted to let you know the stamps arrived Sat. Thanks so much.

  2. Gorgeous coloring job! I’m always so impressed with the beauty of your cards! My favorite way to color is with watercolor pencils and Odorless Mineral spirits. Thanks for the chance to win!

  3. Kittie, these Stampavie stamps were made for you and your scenes. I’ve got a couple and I think I need to try them in some Kittie scenes again. It’s been awhile since I’ve done those and I have so much fun making them too.

  5. Your watercoloring is just so wonderful-my aim is to paint like you. ;>) Cute image and card.
I usually watercolor with Derwent pencils and a aquabrush or use the Gamsol technique with Prismacolor pencils. (I use Turpenoid instead of Gamsol, an oderless thinner I buy at Wal-Mart.)
Thanks for a chance to win.

  6. pretty pink and green combo and like your scallop piercing, lovely watercoloring, I have tried that but it isn’t my best, I seem to be able to achieve alot better results with pencils, thanks for the chance on the stamp set!

  7. My favorite is to sponge with a cottonball and make a scene with whatever works at the moment. I’ve learned so much from you. After I saw your cards the first time, I’ve been hooked on scenes ever since, I love how you take simple stamps and make each one something special. Thanks for all the wonderful cards and please keep them coming.

  10. I was admiring your sweet card with such excellent colouring that I forgot to say that I love colouring still with my radiant pearls, also pencil crayons building up the waxiness and getting a lovely sheen.

  12. As you know, I have always admired your watercoloring skills. I enjoy watercoloring, too, but feel I get better results with the Copics on most things. You don’t have to put my name in for the blog candy; I just wanted to answer your question and tell you how cute and sweet your card is!
I hope work does slow down for you so we can see more of your wonderful work, Kittie!
