I was on vacation at Cape Hatteras last week for our annual family vacation and while I was gone I was crowned the SCS Queen for the Day by my good friend, Anne Ryan. Anne also threw in a big birthday wish for me as well as I turn 59 tomorrow. The gallery of projects entered by my friends casing my work was beautiful. I decided to play along and pulled out two of my oldest and favorite stamp sets and created a bright and cheerful birthday scene for myself. I love the dogs in Stampin’ Up!’s retired Bow Wow and Loads of Love Accessories sets. Nothing could be more fun than one of the dogs driving the Loads of Love truck with a pile of dogs in the back as they drive by the Bow Wow’s yard of dogs with a birthday wish.
I stamped the main images of the scene on watercolor paper, painted using reinker and water and cut them all out to pop up over the scene. I sponged in the ground area and used Itty Bitty Backgrounds and the mini fern from my Kittie Kits Outdoor Master to fill in the ground and grass texture. I sponged in the sky using the retired SU cloud template. I haven’t been able to do much stamping and painting lately so being able to do this project was a fun and relaxing party of “one” just for me.
I got to play last night after work in the SCS Color Challenge and boy were they challenging colors.
When I saw them I instantly thought of a beach scene and I pulled out the beach umbrella and Adirondack chair from my Kittie Kits Fun in the Sun set. Here is what I came up with using these bright colors.
I stamped the images on watercolor paper, painted and cut out. I created the beach scene by sponging in the sand and then masking the water line across the horizon and sponging it. I used the SU cloud template to create the sky and an artist pen to sketch in the birds and a marker to sketch in the sea grass. The sea foam was created by applying liquid appliqué along the water’s edge and then dabbing with my fingers to remove the dreaded bubbles and then heated. I thought the clouds would be fun to carry over to the background image of the main card base.
My last project was done using Stampavie Penny Johnson’s Rosie Rabbit for the Stampavie Blog challenge on Monday to use dots. I loved the Cuttlebug dots folder and thought they were just the perfect element to use this very pink rabbit and red rose. The image was painted with water and reinkers and cut out to pop up. This was very simple and quick but I love the simplicity that allows the big rose and rabbit to be the main focal point.

Happy Birthday dear friend! I wish you many, many more! Your cards are absolutely adorable! How sweet to be crowned Queen of the Day by Ann (she’s adorable isn’t she!). I hope you had a wonderful visit with your sisters and enjoyed the beach!
