Spotlighting Daisies

My project today was made for Splitcoaststampers Clean and Simple Challenge to use the spotlighting technique.  I don’t do spotlighting very often but when I do I seem to favor flowers.  I went through my flower images and pulled out Rubbernecker’s Daisies from the Bold Florals Collection.  The framed image with the daisies popping of out the box was perfect to highlight the boldness of the colored section against the black and white.  Here is what I came up with.

I stamped the whole image on white cardstock and attached to the card base with mounting tape for added dimension.

I stamped the image again on watercolor paper, placed a rectangle Nestabilities die over the center section, secured and cut. Watercolor paper is always my first choice when watercoloring with reinkers.  It allows for color layering and depth that cannot be accomplished on regular cardstock. I used three shades of ink for the daisy petals- Stampin’ Up’s Marigold Morning and More Mustard and Distress Rusty Hinge. The flower centers were painted with Antique Linen and Brushed Corduroy.

I highlighted the colored image by layering over a tiny deckled border.  I tried several ways to add ribbon or a bow and nothing seemed to work as well as leaving it alone.  It’s simple but the contrast between the painted and unpainted image is striking.  It’s perfect for any occasion.

I appreciate you stopping in today.

  1. A little different from your usual style, but very attractive. I’ve had to go back and look at it more than once. Beautiful work as usual! Hope your day was less stressful than it has been.

  6. Hey Kittie!! This was the very first rubbernecker stamp I owned as a gift from Dave to a stamping event I attended 4 yrs ago!! I love the way it lends itself to the spotlighting technique, but then again, it had quite the artist applying those wonderful colors that pop this into life. Hugs~
