Cool Down July With a Snowy Scene

Good Wednesday morning.  My project today was made for the Splitcoaststampers Color Challenge to use Raspberry Ripple, Pink Pirouette and Crumb Cake. The use of torn paper was also an added part of the challenge for a little extra credit.

For some reason I was inspired to make a winter scene.  I have been wanting to try my hand at applying Liquid Applique to the Impression Obsession tree to see how it would in a winter scene.  I think it turned out great.

I started by tearing three pieces of white cardstock for my snow drifts and peeling back  the top layer of paper off each piece to look more like snow. I punched my snow man in white and then the head portion again in black to create the hat.  I created a red scarf, added a nose and details for the eyes and mouth and finished by adding branch arms.

I glued the top layer of snow down directly on the card base, the second was glued at the bottom but the top was popped up lightly with rolled glue dots and the bottom piece was attached with mounting tape. I applied Liquid Applique to the branches of the tree and lightly tapped the liquid with my finger to spread around to create a thinner layer when heated.  This helps to get the bubbles out and to keep from forming the “dreaded blobs” when heated. I loved how the snowy tree came to life when I heated the applique.  Here’s a closer look. KC IMpression Obsession Tree Die 4 close

Before attaching the tree into the scene I added tiny dots of Liquid Applique to the base of the card to create a lightly falling snow.  The flakes popped up to the perfect size to show on the background. Attaching the snowman was the finishing touch.  I know we don’t normally think of the sky as pink but I think it is ok this time.  LOL!

  2. What a wonderful card! When I first looked at it, I thought you had used an embossing folder for the background dots. I usually learn something new when I visit your blog. Thanks for the inspiration!
