Damask and Decorative Accents

Good Sunday morning.  My project today was made for the Splitcoaststampers Inspiration Challenge.  The inspiration site was Patina and I was inspired by an aqua and white locker bin.

I loved the aqua and white pattern with the white trim.  I instantly thought of my Impression Obsession Damask Cover a Card stamp.  I really like the pattern of my Sizzix Decorative Accent and Label set and thought it would be a lovely accent with the damask.

Here’s what I came up with.

I attached the stamp on my mega mount and stamped the image using tumbled glass ink. I attached it to the white card base using my ATG adhesive.

I cut the cut the solid label piece and then cut a frame opening with a square die and cut another square frame to create a double matted frame.  I attached the frame pieces together with mounting tape to create the double mat and then attached it to the card base with another layer of mounting tape.  I wanted to create lots of dimension.  I attached the accent to the frame opening with a triple layer of mounting tape to secure and keep from bending in.  I attached the sides of the accent to the frame with a single layer of mounting tape. I love how the damask pattern and frame and accent look together.

Have I share with you that I use waxed paper between my die and paper when using light colored or white cardstock?

The waxed paper keeps the cardstock perfectly clean with no dirty marks from the metal die.  It also helps helps removing the cardstock when using very delicate or intricate dies.

I hope you are having a fun weekend. Thanks for stopping by.

  1. Lovely…like the tip as well…I use waxed paper for helping with intricate die removal, but hadn’t thought about using it to just keep the cs clean…and I know what you mean about those flecks that get on CS when die cutting it. I regularly wash my acrylic plates with warm soapy water to get rid of those tiny paper shavings that get embedded in the plates…hate it when my cs gets dirty looking. Love your card today, as always….stunning.

  3. Exquisite card, Kittie. I can see how the inspiration of the locker bin came through in your work. I have used waxed paper to “lubricate” my intricate dies, but I hadn’t thought of using it to protect the surface of pale paper – great tip!

  4. Hi Kitty,
Marite is having problems using her ‘wave’ paper crimper. She can’t get the paper to advance in/through the crimper. She is asking for your advice on using the crimper.

  6. Marite, You need to insert the paper in the crimper and then squeeze the handles together and turn the crank. If this isn’t working for you then I wonder I’d your crimper is damaged. I sure hope this helps. kittie

  7. I just love this card! I think the blue and white is such a soothing color combination. I follow your blog and just love your work. I do use wax paper but also have turned to dryer sheets of late! I wipe my most detailed dies in the cut area with a simple dryer sheet and the die comes out like butter ;-D I end up using one sheet for probably 20 different cuts….sometimes more.
