Impression Obsession “Things That Fly” Design Team Challenge

Good Thursday morning and welcome to the Impression Obsession “Things That Fly” design team challenge. For my project I used the Sea Birds paired with the  Ocean Border.

I started my project by adding a few drops of alcohol ink on to my non stick craft sheet and misted it with alcohol blending solution.   I laid a piece of glossy cardstock face down over the ink and lightly pressed down with my fingers to spread the ink around.  I cut the waves out using the ocean border  dies, crimped and set them aside.  I applied clouds on the glossy cardstock base layer using my ink blending tool and a hand cut cloud template. I attached the back two wave layers to the card base with ATG adhesive and the front layer with mounting tape.  I cut the pilings out of kraft paper using my deckle scissors, wiped them directly across the brown ink pad and tucked them in behind the waves. I cut the yellow sun, covered it with versa,  embossed it with iridescent embossing powder and popped it up in the sky area with mounting tape.

I cut the birds from glossy cardstock and sponged color on them using a small dauber. I used a black marker to add the detail to the beak, feet and eyes.  I popped the birds in the sky with mounting tape for added dimension and to appear in flight.  I added a few birds floating around the pilings fishing for minnows.

Here’s a closer side view to see the dimension.  You can click on the pictures for an even larger view. I think this is a perfect masculine card but I love it too.

  1. Good Morning, Kittie, and beautiful sea picture. I think anyone who loves the ocean would love this one, the sea gulls are perfect. I love the bright textured Sun and the wood in the sea. …..just lovely…..have a good day.

  2. Did you have to do such a great job on the birds?? Now I want them too! Another great and creative card, Kittie! (Even if seeing this will cost me more money! LOL)

  3. Thank you for the long lasting smiles, Kittie. Reminds me of home in Washington state. We don’t have sea gulls in Hawai’i! at least on Big Island. Strange, huh? And the ocean doesn’t smell like salt either.
