Elegant Stand-Up Dahlia

Good Saturday morning.  My project today was made for the Splitcoaststampers Inspiration Challenge and Grandin Road is our inspiration site.

I was inspired by this Blossom Outdoor Pillow. I loved the floral theme and especially the orange and green.

I received the Sizzix Elegant Stand-Ups die set as a gift a while back and this is my first time playing with it. I loved the big orange flower in the center of the pillow and tried to recreate a similar die cut flower using the Susan’s Dahlia set.

I cut the stand up card base in green and white coordinating layers in white.  I used the negative opening of the leaves and smallest flowers to create a pattern on the bottom base layer.  I laid the openings on the cardstock and colored in with PanPastel and mini applicators. I left the white layer on the inside of the card plain for writing a note or stamping a sentiment.

I cut the flower sections using apricot cardstock and colored with orange pastel and a mini applicator.  I formed the petals with my stylus and molding pad and assembled with glossy accents.  I cut the leaves using light green cardstock and colored with green and yellow pastel and a mini applicator.  I added the veins and stem lines on the leaves with the leaf pad and leaf tool. I lightly formed the leaves with my fingers.

I attached the flower to the card base with glossy accents and tucked the leaves in around the flower. When the card is closed it is 5.50” x 4.25”.

The Elegant set has many different accessory pieces and four different sentiments. I didn’t add a sentiment to this for now so I can use it for any occasion.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

  2. Beautiful card, Kittie. I love the feeling of happiness when you look at it 🙂 I always love your cards and follow your blog religiously, although I don’t comment enough and for that I’m sorry. But since I do have some time today, I just wanted to let you know that you are a true inspiration. Whenever I’m at a loss of what to do or my mojo is running low, I always come visit your blog and although my cards don’t look anywhere near as stunning as yours, it does get my creative juices flowing again. Thank you, not only for sharing your amazing projects, but also for your tutorials and tips.

  3. Wow, Kittie this card is amazingly beautiful. I love the flower. Creating your own decorated paper with the leftover cutout as a stencil, awesome! I enjoy creating my own decorated papers to coordinate with my cards. You did a great job of interpreting the pillow. Thank you for sharing this creatively inspiring card today.
