Pop-Up Diorama Card

My project was made using a unique card folding technique called Pop-Up Diorama Card.  You can find the step by step and video tutorial over at Splitcoaststampers here.  I wanted my card to be a little wider than the one in the tutorial but it will still fold down to fit in an A2 envelope.

Here's how I adapted the size:
12" cardstock cut into a 5 1/2" deep strip and scored at 4", 7 1/2", 8" and 11 1/2".

Check out my step by step Beach Scene tutorial in the CLASSroom if you would like to see how I create my sand, sky and foamy water.

Pop Up Diorama KC Beach Inside

I used a light blue piece of cardstock for the base of my card.  I knew the brown ink for the sand would easily cover the blue and that I could add the sky and water elements with a slightly darker blue ink. I scored the fold lines for the card and lightly formed without attaching them to get an idea of all the surfaces that would show when the card was assembled.  I wanted the beach scene to be seamless and to cover  and be seen both the inside and out. I did miscalculate a little on the sand section where the inside folded portion attached to the inside of the front flap.  But even with that little boo boo I still like how it turned out. For those of you who have known me a while you know that I am technically challenged with special fold cards.  I was more proud that I was able to actually get the fold to work to show off the little scene inside the frame than the beach scene itself.  LOL!

Pop Up Diorama KC Beach Front

I hand cut sandy beach sections with deckle scissors to go all the way around the inside and outside of the card.  I wanted to be able to tuck the Adirondack chair and umbrella in behind it.  If you look closely you will see that I failed to get a cut section of sand on the inside cover.  I didn’t even notice it until I started writing my post.  LOL!

I hope you will challenge yourself to making one of these fun Pop-Up Diorama cards.  If I can do it anyone can.

Thanks for stopping by today and I hope you are having a good week.

Note:  I keep the full list of my regularly used tools in my supply links below.  Some may not have been used in today’s project.

  1. What a beautiful card Kittie. Such a lovely scene to look at all the way around your card. I just love how you color the sky, sand and how you make that water sparkle its so pretty. I am always challenged when I try to see a new fold on a card, even with measurements it just seems to never come together the way it should and here you have even adapted it to your own size, wow that is amazing.

  3. Eileen, I can’t take credit for adapting the measurements for this card. My friend and fellow Splitcoaststamper Sabrina aka Cook22 shared them with me. I would not have been able to figure that out on my own. I barely figured out how to fold it. LOL!
