Good Saturday afternoon. Don’t you just love it when Ellen Hutson has a sale!! Wow! 20% savings on all in-stock items!!!
I’m getting a late start for my post today. I’m taking part in an eight week fitness challenge being sponsored by my employer and am striving to get at least 10,000 steps and 30 minutes of exercise activity a day. I don’t have too much trouble getting all of that in during the work day as I take a 10 minute walk break each morning and afternoon along with a walk during my lunch time. My Fitbit keeps track of everything for me so all I have to do is walk. It’s a little harder on the weekends since I am the queen of the couch potato kingdom so I hit the sidewalk really early each Saturday and Sunday morning and talk a five mile walk. Thank goodness for good Sketchers walking shoes.
My project today was made for the Splitcoaststampers Inspiration Challenge to create a single layer card. Our inspiration site was the Beauty of Single Layer Cards Pinterest site. My card was inspired by this clean and simple single layer card. I’ve made dozens of beach scene cards over the years but I just never tire of them. I really love the simple scene on the white background and the popped up Impression Obsession Sea Birds.
I started by cutting out a mask using the Spellbinders Deckled Rectangle Nestabilities out of printer paper and attaching it to the card base using Mono Removable Adhesive. I didn’t want the outline of the scene to be perfectly straight and thought the uneven deckle lines would look far more natural. I sponged the brown sandy beach in using Antique Linen ink. I put a mask in the sky area made using the 3-M Post-It removable labeling tape to create a straight water line and sponged in the blue water. I removed the tape and then lightly sponged in the sky using an Inkssentials ink blending tool.
I sketched in the sea oats with my Peeled Paint marker and then sponged a little Vintage Photo ink on each clump of oats to add a little dimension. I stamped some texture in the sand with a retired stamp from the Itty Bitty Background set. I applied a tiny bit of Liquid Applique to the water to add the appearance of sea foam, smooshed it around with my finger to remove the bubbles and then heated with my heat gun. I sponged Pumice Stone ink on the wings of the birds, lightly bent their wings to appear flying and attached them to the scene with tiny pieces of mounting tape. I wish I was there right now. I love the ocean!!
Thanks for coming by today and I hope you have a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend.
