First Blooms by Penny Black

Good Sunday morning.  I have a pretty floral project to share with you today using the new Penny Black First Blooms set paired with the My Favorite Things Leafy Greenery and Lawn Fawn Fancy Scalloped Rectangle Stackables. I cut the tulips using and foliage using Arches Hot Press Watercolor Paper and colored them using an assortment of Memento Markers and a waterbrush.

I recently received several of the Memento Markers and was anxious to watercolor with them. I cut all the flowers and foliage and I misted each image with a mini mister to prepare the paper to receive color.  I applied the marker inks on a large acrylic block  for a palette, picked up the inks using my waterbrush and painted the images.  While the ink was still damp on the tulips I used the brush tip of the marker to lightly apply lines of ink around the outer side edges and inside the body of the tulips to create the appearance of petals. Once the lines were drawn I lightly washed them with the waterbrush to smooth out the lines.  I hope that made sense. I used a couple green markers and a yellow one to paint the foliage to give a more natural appearance.

The First Blooms set comes with three different dies with tulips on each stem. I cut two full sets so I would have enough to create a tulip bouquet. Once they were painted and dry and cut some of the pieces apart to make it easier to arrange my bouquet. I began by attaching stems of the tulips and foliage sections together with glossy accents.  I continued adding the flowers and foliage and adhering them together with the glue so they would all stay together.  From start to finish I held the stems of the bouquet together which got a little messy and sticky for my fingers but the outcome was certainly worth the effort.

I cut the two frame sections and attached them together with thin strips of mounting tape. I then applied another layer of mounting tape to the back of the second mat layer and attached the frame to the card base. I attached small triple layered pieces of mounting to several of the tulip heads and some double layers to the back of the foliage stems and then attached the bouquet inside the frame and to the card base. I wanted the bouquet to have lots of dimension.  I finished the bouquet by adding a simple white multi loop bow.  I love how this turned out.  I especially love the Memento Lilac Posies color that I used for the tulips. When I was totally finished I decided to apply clear Wink of Stella to the tulips to add a touch of sparkle.
