Watercolored Mondo Hydrangea

Good Saturday morning.  My project today was inspired by yesterday’s CLASSroom post showing projects using bright colors with black and white.  I love Julie’s Mondo Hydrangea Stamp Set and the coordinating Mondo Hydrangea Die Set and paired them with a white sentiment layer cut using the Stitched Scallop Basic Edges.  I don’t watercolor nearly as often as I used to and I was excited to pull out my Distress reinkers and give it a whirl.  I thought the hydrangea colored in bright pink and bright green foliage would be so pretty against the black polka dot paper.  I didn’t want to use black for the stamped image so I turned to gold embossed lines.  I think it is so pretty.  My pictures just don’t do it justice.

I applied embossing magic to hot pressed watercolor paper, set the paper and stamp in my MISTI and stamped the images with versa.  I applied gold super fine embossing powder and heated with my heat gun.  Next I used a fairly large round brush to apply water over the hydrangea image and then applied a light layer of Spun Sugar reinker.  I applied the ink outside of the flower lines so when I die cut it there wouldn’t be a while outline as I don’t like that very much. While the flower was still wet I dipped my brush in full strength Worn Lipstick reinker and dabbed around the wet outer center of the flowers.  Next I applied full strength Scattered Straw ink to the center of each blossom and allowed the ink to spread a little out of the line to highlight. I repeated the same technique for my leaves using Scattered Straw and Peeled Paint reinkers.  I secured the dies in place over the images with painter’s tape and ran through my Big Shot.

I applied the polka dot paper to the card base using ATG adhesive.  The sentiment was stamped on the white scalloped layer and embossed with gold powder. I applied ATG adhesive across the straight edge of the white layer and thin strips of mounting tape along the scalloped border and attached to the card base.  The hydrangea and leaves were attached to the card base with mounting tape.

  2. Ue bien jolie carte. Oser le noir en dehors du vintage donne un super résultat et j’imagine très bien l’effet rendu par l’embossage or. Très bon dimanche ensoleillé !

  3. Kittie, this card is so classy. The layers of white die cut against the black/white dotted paper is a great background for these colorful hydrangeas (my favorite flower!)The simple gold embossed sentiment adds the perfect finishing touch. TFS.
