Clean and Simple Watercolored Hydrangea

Good Thursday morning.  Today is day six of the Splitcoaststampers Dare To Get Dirty challenges.  My card today was made for Sandee’s challenge.  You can find the details of all the challenges here but you need to be a Fan Club member.  If you would like to check out how to become a Fan Club member click here

I used the Essentials by Ellen Mondo Hydrangea Stamp Set and Mondo Hydrangea Die Set for my project and tried my hand at watercoloring the images.  Sadly the photos do not really show how pretty the flower is.

I secured my hot press watercolor paper in place in my MISTI and set the stamps in place.  I used Spun Sugar and Peeled Paint Distress Markers to apply the green and pink to the stamp, misted the stamp and paper and stamped the image. I stamped the image a second time to get good coverage and then used my waterbrush and reinkers to pull the colors out into the blossoms and leaves.  I added darker shades of pink using Worn Lipstick reinker and added bits of green back for the flower centers and stems.  By this time I had mostly obliterated the outline of the petals so I applied Worn Lipstick to the stamp and stamped over the flower again.  I had actually removed the stamp from my MISTI so I had to line it up by eye. So you can see the petals are a little off but I still really like how it turned out.  I always color outside of the lines of flower stamped images when I am going to die cut them so the white border doesn’t show.  I don’t like those white borders very much.  The flower and leaves were die cut and you can barely see any border at all.

I was not as pleased with how the leaves turned out.  So I decided to try applying versa and clear embossing powder to them and heated.  They came out looking much better.  So I embossed the whole flower as well.  It did brighten the colors.  I attached the flower to the card base with mounting tape.  I gently formed the leaves a little with my fingers  and attached them with glossy accents. I finished by adding a soft white multi loop bow.  You can check out my multi loop bow tutorial here.
