Impression Obsession “Background” Challenge

Welcome to the Impression Obsession “Stamp a Background” design team challenge and to see how I messed up and made a flower pot die cut scene with a tree background.  Ugh!  Getting old is no fun.  I read the challenge wrong but decided to post my card for the challenge anyway.

Come check out how I created flower pots die cut scene that is perfect for a person who loves working with flowers.

The Frame and Tree

I started by cutting the tree frame out using green cardstock and coloring it using a brown Copic marker.  Next I cut the red frame and grass border and attached them together using double stick tape.  I applied thin strips of mounting tape to the back of the frame, attached the tree frame and then attached the whole framed tree to the card base.  I cut a couple die batches of the new tiny singles leaves and attached them to the branches of the tree using glossy accents.

Coloring the Pots and Arranging Flowers

I cut the flower pots using yellow cardstock and then applied and blended Wild Honey, Rusty Hinge and Vintage Photo inks with mini applicators to create the appearance of terracotta pots. I cut foliage sections apart to create foliage base for the flower pot and flowers along the grass border.  I attached a couple to the back of a flower pot and tucked a few in behind the grass section and attached with glossy accents. Next I formed the tiny flowers using my stylus and molding pad and attached them to the foliage using glossy accents.

Completing the Flower Pot Die Cut Scene

I attached the flower filled pot to the card base using mounting tape.  I tucked a single pot to the corner of the frame and tucked a couple pots inside each other and attached them on their sides to the card base.  I wanted to create the appearance of a garden scene with filled pots and pots waiting to be filled with new flowers.  I finished by adding a few birds in the tree branches.

Thanks for coming by and I hope you like my flower pot die cut scene and will forgive me for messing up on the challenge.  Check out what the other design team members came up with for the challenge.  I’m sure they all read directions better than me.

  1. Kittie I understand the “getting old” thing as well. Reading stuff backwards!!! But I love the card, I think it’s perfect!! I love the pots in the foreground, they just add so much to the whole arrangement. As usual I think it’s perfect, whether or not its according to directions or not. Whenever I make a card that has instructions, I always do one thing different than is called for. My friend that taught me how to make cards, told me that I was being an individual and that’s what crafting is all about…..individuality!!! So there!!!

  3. So since when isn’t a beautifully dressed, full-size tree not a background? Most of us would give anything to make backgrounds as well as you do, Ms. Kittie! Artistic and technical ability shine all over your piece…..no “mea culpas” necessary At All!

  4. Well it is good to know I am not the only one that messes up challenges , LOL!
I love your spilled over pots, I am going to check at my local store to see if they have them in yet. I did attempt to try coloring a pot I already had , but I just can’t achieve your greatness, but I will keep trying, Awesome scene!
