Today I’m celebrating National Dog Day with a fun die cut doggie scene card with two dogs hiding bones in the yard and a cat watching from the window. The dogs, cat and bones are all from the United We Flourish Good Friends Stamp and Die Set. The window was made using the My Favorite Things Classic Window, The grass was made using Lawn Fawn Grassy Border and the window and garden flowers were made using Impression Obsession Tiny 5 Petals, Tiny 6 Petals and Leaves and Stems.
The Dogs and Cat
I secured the white cardstock and dogs and cat images in my MISTI and stamped them using black VersaFine and embossed them using clear embossing powder. I used my snips to cut the images out so there would not be any white border. I used Distress Inks and mini applicators to apply color to the images.
The See Thru Window and Siding
I cut two windows frames. I used one to trace around the inner opening on the card base to use for cutting lines and then cut the opening using a craft knife. I cut several 1/2 inch strips of cardstock to use for the house siding. I attached the first strip at the bottom of the card using ATG adhesive and then attached the second by overlapping the top of the first. I continued attaching the strips until I reached the lower third of the window. I used my craft knife to trim off the portion of the siding that sent over the window opening. I cut a 3/8 inch strip of cardstock, ran in through my crimper and attached it to the top of the siding for a finished look.
I applied thin strips of mounting tape on the back of the first window and attached it over the front opening. I cut two sets of drapes using decorative paper, attached them to each other so so the pattern would show from both the outside and inside and attached them to the window from the back side of the opening. Next, I trimmed the cat to fit in behind the drapes and attached with glue dots. I finished by lining the second window on the inside of the card and attached in place using mounting tape. You can see the inside opening of the card below. Check out my See Thru Window Tutorial if you would like to see step by step photos of how I made the window.
Completing the Die Cut Doggie Scene Card
I cut two grass borders and attached the first to the card base using ATG adhesive and the second using mounting tape. I tucked the dogs in behind the grass and attached in place using mounting tape. I cut several tiny flowers in multiple colors and several sections of leaves and stems. I created the window arrangement by attaching foliage with glossy accents. Next, I attached little clusters of flower to the stems using glossy accents. I created a flower border in the grass with stems of flowers and then finished the scene by tucking several bones in the grass and attaching them with mounting tape. There is one red ball tucked in the grass but it doesn’t show up well in the photo.
Thanks so much for coming by today and I hope you have enjoyed seeing my die cut doggie scene card and have been inspired to get out all your toys and make a scene of your own.
