My project today is a multi level deer die cut winter scene card made using several dies by Rubbernecker Stamps. I used the Deer Family, Tree in Oval, Deckle Hills, Nested Deckle Rectangles, Tabbed Birch Trees, Small Birds, Winter Tree, Nested Rectangles and Pine Tree Forest. I used the Splatter Background to stamp the soft blue falling snow. I’ve made scene cards similar to this many times but this time I created a little more dimension. I cut a framed opening on the card base and attached the background scene to the back of the card base using two layers of mounting tape. The front frame was then attach with two layers of mounting tape leaving quite a bit of separation between the front snow layer and the back scene base. I sure wish the pictures showed off the depth of layers. If you look closely between the two deer you can see the spaces between the trees and snow layers.
The Card Base, Frame and Snow Layers
- Cut an A2 sized card base and cut a rectangle opening in the front using the second largest die from the Nested Rectangle set.
- Cut a rectangle for the front frame and one for the scene base using the largest die from the rectangle set.
- Use the third largest die from the Nested Deckle Rectangle to cut the frame opening.
- Place the Splatter Background stamp in the MISTI and stamp the frame and scene base using Tumbled Glass ink.
- Cut three Deckle Hills sections, two for the scene base and one for the card front.
- Attach two snow layers to the scene base using double stick tape.
- Apply two layers of mounting tape to the scene base and attach it to the inside of the card base.
- Apply two layers of mounting tape to the frame and attach it to the card base.
- Apply a single layer of mounting tape to the front snow layer and attach it to the frame.
The Trees
- Cut the birch trees and apply thin strips of mounting tape to the back of the trees.
- Tuck the trees in behind the snow layers and attach them to the scene base.
- Cut the winter tree into two parts, tuck the tree sections on both sides of the scene base and attach using strips of mounting tape.
- Cut three trees from the Tree in Oval set and one section of Pine Tree Forest.
- Tuck the trees in behind the snow layers and attach with strips of mounting tape.
- The small tree in the background was attached with two layers of mounting tape.
- The tallest tree was attached with four layers of mounting tape.
- The front tree on the right was attached to the frame base using one layer of mounting tape.
- The small Pine Tree Forest trees are attached to the frame using a single layer of mounting tape.
- Use a small tipped brush to apply snow flakes to the trees and snow to the branches using white Gesso.
The Deer and Birds
- Cut the deer using white cardstock.
- Apply Antique Linen ink to the whole body of both deer using a mini applicator.
- Apply a darker shade of brown using Vintage Photo ink and a mini applicator. Note: The lighter ink creates a good moist layer of ink to help with the shading of the darker ink.
- Tuck the deer in behind the front snow layer and attach using strips of mounting tape.
- Finish by attaching the birds to the scene using small pieces of mounting tape.
