For my project today I’m showing how I make a 3d paper poppy and use it on a clean and simple card front with a decorative frame and sentiment. The addition of the red rick rack fame highlights the flower and adds interest to the all white background. For this project I used the newly released Rubbernecker Organic Shapable Poppy, Rectangle Combo #4 and “Kittie Says” Phrase #1.
The Frame and Sentiment
- Use white cardstock to cut the frame and red cardstock to cut the rick rack frame section.
- Turn the white and red frame sections face down and attach them together using double stick tape.
- Line the frame up on the card base to show where you want the sentiment to be stamped.
- Stamp the sentiment on the card base using black ink.
- Apply strips of mounting tape to the back of the frame, line it up over the sentiment and attach to the card base. Note: Popping up a frame on your card front rather than flat to the surface creates so much more interest. The touch of red on this frame really draws your attention to the flower and sentiment.
The 3D Paper Poppy
- Use red cardstock to cut two red flower layers, green and black cardstock to cut the flower center and green cardstock for the stems.
- Place the flower sections face down on the molding pad and form the petals using a large round stylus.
- Place the flower sections face up on the molding pad and push down in the center of each using a small tipped stylus.
- Attach the petals together using glossy accents.
- Place the black flower centers on the molding pad, push down in the center and roll them around the small round stylus. Attach the centers together using glossy accents and attach them to the center of the flower using glossy accents.
- Place the small green flower centers on the molding pad and push down in the center of each using the smallest tipped stylus. Pick up each center and use your fingers to form the flower around the stylus tip.
- Attach the green centers together using glossy accents and attach them in the center of the black centers using glossy accents.
- Note: I used three black centers and two green centers for this flower.
- Apply glossy accents to the back of the poppy and attach it the the card base.
- Use glossy accents to attach the flower stems together and attach them to the card base using glossy accents.
