DIY Christmas Gift Tags – SO Pretty!

Today I am sharing some simple and fast to make DIY Christmas gift tags that you can easily customize using whatever you have on hand. They use a pretty basic design and it’s in all the fun additions and choice of themes that make them so much fun. I was inspired by those people who wrap every gift – some all year round – with plain white or Kraft butcher paper and use the tags as the design feature. Some people even create certain tags for certain family members so they get to “scavenger hunt” for all those same tags to find their gifts.

Two easy to make DIY Christmas gift tags featuring small arrangements of die cut greenery and a simple heat embossed greeting

To make these tags I used the Rubbernecker Nested Tag Stitch, Holly, Greenery #2 and Magic of the Season.

One of my DIY Christmas gift tags made using a fast and simple grouping of die cut greenery, one bow and a stamped greeting

The Tag Base

  • Use the two largest tag dies in the set and red and white cardstock to cut the tags,
  • Stamp the sentiment on the white tag using Versamark and emboss with gold embossing powder.  Note:  I like to use super fine powder for sentiments.
  • Apply adhesive on the back of the white tag and attach it to the red tag.
  • Use a 1/4″ circle punch to punch a hole in the top of the tag to use for tying the tag.  Note:  The tag set comes with a circle die but I knew I wouldn’t be able to get the holes to match up perfectly since I am using two layers.

The Foliage and Bow

  • Cut the holly and greenery branches using green cardstock and red cardstock for the holly berries.
  • Form the holly leaves using a leaf tool or tiny tipped stylus and molding pad.
  • Use glossy accents to attach the the red berries.   Note:  When I’m working with tiny die cuts like the berries I spread them out on my molding pad and pick them up with my reverse tweezers. Since the molding pad is spongy it allows the point of the tweezers to slide under the small piece to pick it up.
  • Arrange the holly and greenery branches on the top corner of the tags and attach using glossy accents.
  • Finish by attaching a red multi loop bow.  Check out my Multi Loop Bow video tutorial if you would like to see how I made my bows.
