How To Make a Snow Globe In a Mason Jar

Today I want to share a fun way for how to make a snow globe in a mason jar. I had this old clamp-top mason jar but any glass jar will work and you can even make them in different sizes for fun little vignettes!  This jar is pretty small so I could only add a few images but I love how it turned out.  I used Rubbernecker’s Winter Snowmen, Winter Tree, Evergreen Trees, Greenery #2 and Small Birds.

The Snowmen

  • Cut the snowman parts and pieces using a mix of colorful cardstock. Note:  I place all the small pieces like the eyes, nose and buttons on my molding pad instead of my desk top.  It makes it so much easier to pick up the tiny pieces because I can slip the tweezers under the piece on the squishy pad.  It’s almost impossible to pick them up off a flat surface because the just slide around.
  • Attach the two body sections together using glossy accents.
  • Attach all the body parts, hat and scarf to the snowman using glossy accents.
  • Adhere two little foliage sections and red circle to the hat and scarf for a Christmas touch.
  • Apply a tiny bit of Cosmic glitter glue to the corner of the top hat and scarf and sprinkle on the white Flower Soft.
  • Note:  I normally use glossy accents to attach die cuts together because of it’s strong hold.  But I don’t use it to attach the Flower Soft because it doesn’t seem to like it and allows the particles to shed off.  The glitter glue holds well and dries clear.

The Trees

  • Cut the winter tree using green cardstock and the evergreen tree using green cardstock.
  • Run the evergreen tree through the straight crimper to add a touch of dimension.
  • Apply glitter glue to the tree branches and the ridges on the crimped evergreen tree.
  • Sprinkle flower soft over both, turn them over and shake to remove loose particles.

Create The Base for Images

  • Cut three narrow white strips about 1/2″ wide and 1 1/2″ long to create a base for the images.
  • Cut three narrow white strips about 1/2″ wide and 3/4″ long.
  • Score each of the smaller strips in the middle once and a second time 1/8″ over.
  • Bend the smaller strips up on both sides of the score lines to create flaps.
  • Apply glossy accents to the bottom of each of the scored strips and attach to the larger base strips.
  • Apply glossy accents to the inner sides of the flaps, insert the image in between the flaps and press the flaps together to secure the image.

Insert and Attach The Images

  • Attach double stick tape to the bottom of each base, insert the base and image in the jar and attach to the bottom of the jar.
  • Note:  After I got all three images secured in their base, I had trim a little off of the bases to get them past the other images and set in place.  I just played it by ear.  There may be better ways to get the images to stand in the jar but I couldn’t think of any.  I guess I should have Googled.
  • Drop spoon fulls of flower soft in the jar to create the ground snow and is enough to cover the bases attach to the images.
