How To Emboss With Metal Dies For New Looks!

Get even MORE out of your metal dies by using them to EMBOSS!

Once you know how to emboss with metal dies you will instantly get double the use out of these handy tools! Today I’ve used one of the awesome nested die sets from Rubbernecker to create an embossed look in one area and as a die cut for the focal element. It’s so incredibly easy and you only need ONE extra thing to get twice as much out of any metal die. I am also using a flower die set that is a sneak peek to a new release that’s coming soon!

To make this card I used the brand new Rubbernecker Small Flowers #4  and new Birthday Lilies paired with Small Ivy and Nested Scallop with Half Holes. Rubbernecker has also made a new Tiny Flowers #2 set that I can hardly wait to use.  I’ve listed it below for you to check out.

Card Base and Sentiment

  • Use white cardstock to cut an A2 sized card base, a 5.50″ x 4.25″ white layer and the small sentiment layer using the smallest die from the Nested Scallop with Half Holes.
  • Move the dial on the Crossover die cutting machine to set at the correct space to use with the die and rubber embossing mat. Pro Tip:  You will want to consult the manual for your particular machine as the sandwiches/set up for every machine for the exact steps for how to emboss with metal dies CAN differ.
  • Create an embossed layer by placing a rubber embossing mat on the cutting platform.
  • Place the 5.50″ x 4.25″ white layer on the rubber mat, line up the largest die and second largest die from the nested set and secure them in place with masking tape and run through the die cutting machine.
  • Apply ATG adhesive to the back of the embossed layer and attach it to the white card base.
  • Secure the small die cut layer and sentiment stamp in the MISTI and stamp the Birthday Lilies sentiment using green ink.
  • Attach the sentiment layer to the card base using strips of mounting tape.

Flowers and Ivy

  • Cut two sets of the Small Flowers #4 using yellow cardstock.
  • Apply Mango ink to the flowers using a mini applicator.
  • Place the flowers face down on the molding pad and roll over the back of the flower with a round stylus.

  • Turn the flowers face up on the molding pad and push down in the center using a small tipped stylus.  Pro Tip:  I layer three molding pads together to create more depth when I push down to form my flowers.  5422-04D Small Flowers #4 2
  • Use green cardstock to cut three sets of of Small Ivy.
  • Attach four flowers to one section the ivy using glossy accents.
  • Repeat attaching four flowers to the second ivy section.
  • Apply glossy accents to the back of the ivy and flower sections and attach to the corners of the sentiment layer.
  • Trim the top section off of four sections of ivy, tuck one under each end of the flower and Ivy sections and attach using glossy accents.

  1. Like the look, but was watching for a video showing us how you actually make them. I’m not good at reading directions and then trying to do what you say.
