You can adapt this striking but simple birthday card design in so many ways it could serve as your go-to idea forever!
One of the things I love the most about the Rubbernecker 6 X 6 Paper Pads is that it makes creating simple cards so much more dynamic and fun. For example, this simple birthday card design is really up leveled with this background from the It’s Party Time 6×6 Paper Pad and all I had to do was add a small layer that I cut with a die from the Nested Scallop with Holes set and added a color coordinated treat with the Ice Cream Cone die set. A quick stamping of a sentiment from the Dessert Set and I was done!
The reason this design is so endlessly adaptable is that it uses just a few elements – all interchangeable! – and keeps the color story tight. You can change the orientation of the card, change the shape of the die cut panel, swap out the die cut element and change up the sentiments. For instance, you could use a sheet from the Rubbernecker Modern Floral 6 X 6 Paper Pad, a large die cut flower and any appropriate sentiment, using colors for the panel and blossom that you pulled from the paper. Just use the basic “formula” and swap in and out the things you love!
Let me share with you how I made this card and as you check out the steps, think about what you have in your stash or on order from Rubbernecker and how you can use it for a card like this.
Card Base and Sentiment Layer
- Use white cardstock to cut an A2 sized card base and bright yellow cardstock to cut a 5.50 x 4.25″ base layer.
- Cut a 5.25″ x 4.00″ piece of It’s Party Time designer paper.
- Apply ATG adhesive to the yellow layer and designer paper layer and attach them to the card base.
- Use bright yellow cardstock to cut the Nested Scallop with Holes layer.
- Secure the Dessert Time sentiment and yellow scalloped layer in the MISTI and stamp the sentiment using black ink.
- Attach the scalloped sentiment layer to the card base using strips f mounting tape.
The Ice Cream Cone
- Use beige and bright pink cardstock to the Ice Cream Cone sections.
- Apply connect glue to the back of the wafer section of the cone and attach it to the cone base.
- Run the pink ice cream layer through a wave crimper to add dimension and attach it to the cone using glossy accents.
- Use brown cardstock to cut a second ice cream section.
- Line the top section of the ice cream die over the drip edge of the layer and die cut it a second time to form the hot fudge topping.
- Apply glossy accents to the back of the topping and attach it to the ice cream layer.
- Punch out yellow and pink 1/8″ circles to use as sprinkles and attach them to the topping using connect glue.
- Finish the card by attaching the cone to the sentiment layer using pieces of mounting tape.
That’s all you need to do to turn this simple birthday card design into a fabulous treat to send to a friend! Here’s what I used today:
