Gorgeous Quick and Easy DIY Birthday Cards

This idea for quick and easy DIY birthday cards is a permanent keeper and ENDLESSLY versatile!

No matter what kind of crafter we might be, every one of us loves to have ideas for quick and easy DIY birthday cards on hand. Whether we need one last minute or want to make a stack to have on hand or are gifting someone a set for their own birthday, having these “instant card” ideas on hand is like having money in the bank.

An idea for quick and easy DIY birthday cards made with black and white card stock die cut layers set off with a fun, festive patterned paper.

For this card I used a single set of nesting dies – Rubbernecker’s Nested Rectangle Scallop with Holes and their new Happy Birthday Large and Small Stamp set with the Happy Birthday Large and Small Coordinating Die Set for the sentiment and then their new It’s Party Time 6×6 Paper Pad for the colorful background. Using black and white card stock as the layers works with ANY of the patterns in this paper pad and of course, you can use any nested and sentiment set you might have on hand. Personally, I adore this new Happy Birthday stamp and die set because it’s the same font in two sizes perfectly scaled for all sized cards and the dies pop ’em out in no time. These two together are for sure am indispensable addition to your stash!

And I want to point out, too, how any of the patterns in this new Paper Pad can be used for this card design. You could stick with the black and white or swap the black for a color you pull from the pattern you choose. For a card with this degree of simplicity, it’s the details of the nested dies together with the fun patterns that bring all the interest. Here’s a peek at all the other designs in this collection.

Gorgeous, right? You can see how you can grab any one of them and turn them into a card in no time flat. Let’s take a look at the quick and easy steps.

Card Base and Layers

  • Use white cardstock to cut an A2 sized card and black cardstock to cut a 5.50″ x 4.25″ layer.
  • Attach the black layer to the card base using ATG adhesive.  Pro Tip:  I like to use white for the card base so I can add a sentiment inside.
  • Use the largest die from the Nested Rectangle Scallop with Holes to cut a white scalloped layer and attach it to the black card base using ATG adhesive.
  • Use the second die from the set to cut colorful scalloped layer using paper from the It’s Party Time 6×6 Paper Pad.
  • Attach the designer paper to a black layer using ATG adhesive.
  • Apply strips of mounting tape to the back of the designer paper layer and attach it to the card base.

Birthday Sentiment

  • Secure a piece of white cardstock and the Happy sentiment stamp from the Happy Birthday Large and Small set in the MISTI and stamp using Nocturne ink.
  • Repeat the steps and stamp the Birthday sentiment.
  • Line up the Happy Birthday Large and Small Coordinating dies over the stamped words, secure in place with masking tape and run them through the die cutting machine.
  • Apply pieces of mounting tape to the back of each word section and attach them to the card base.

Layers of black and white card stock, festive colorful patterned paper and a die cut sentiment come together on this ideas for quick and easy DIY birthday cards.
That’s it, folks! Is this not the perfect “instant card”? And SO ideal for batch making. And they are so cost effective! Here are the things from the Rubbernecker store that I used – if you’ve already got a set of nesting dies you love, use those and cut the cost per card to less than $1.50 each! (An no one will EVER know!)
