Summer Card Inspiration

We can all use some fun summer card inspiration and this designer paper is just the perfect thing.

I love how the Beach Umbrella, Beach Bag and Waves die sets match so well with the Brass and Bliss Tropical Dreams 6×6 Paper Pad to create dimension and interest for some summer card inspiration. The Hello Summer sentiment adds the perfect finishing touch. And of course I couldn’t resist adding a few flowers to the hat and flip flops from the Small Flowers #6 set.

Card Base

  • Use white cardstock to cut an A2 sized card base and yellow cardstock to cut a 5.50″ x 4.25″ layer.
  • Attach the yellow layer to the card base using double stick tape.
  • Cut a 5.25″ x 4.00″ layering piece of the Tropical Dreams paper pad.
  • Apply double stick tape to the back of the layer and attach it to the card base.
  • Use white cardstock and one of the Waves dies to cut the scalloped sentiment layer.  Note:  I turned the wave die upside down to create the large scallops.
  • Insert the sentiment stamp and the scallop layer in the MISTI and stamp using Nocturne ink.
  • Attach the sentiment layer to the card base using strips of mounting tape.

Die Cut Images

  • Use white and yellow cardstock to cut the Beach Umbrella and Beach Bag sections.
  • Assemble and attach the elements together using Connect glue.  Pro Tip:  I added interest to the beach bag by attaching thin white strips with Connect glue.  After the strips were added I trimmed off the extra length with my snips.
  • Cut the Small Flowers using yellow cardstock, lay them face up on the molding pad and push down in the center with a tiny tipped stylus.
  • Attach the flowers to the hat and flip flops using glossy accents.
  • Note:  I thought there needed to be a brighter bit of color so I colored the flowers using a red marker.

Finish the Card

  • Apply pieces of mounting tape to the back sides and top of the umbrella and attach it to the card base.
  • Apply a thin strip of rolled up double stick tape to the back of the umbrella pole, tuck it under the umbrella and attach to the card base.
  • Attach the flip flops to the card base using double layered glue dots.  Pro Tip:  Attaching two glue dots together to attach the flip flops creates a bit of dimension so they don’t look flat to the sentiment layer.
  • Apply glue dots to the back bottom of the beach bag and a piece of mounting tape to the back top and attach it to the sentiment layer.
  • Apply a piece of mounting tape to the back of the beach hat and attach it to the card base.

I love how the die cut details match so well to the bright and summery paper.  Wouldn’t you love to send a card like this to one of your friends or family!
