Make a Tropical Die Cut Card Beach Scene

Come see how to make a die cut card beach scene with bright flowers and foliage and a foamy ocean background.

I love making a beach scene cards.  For my project today I added bright tropical flowers with foliage to highlight the pretty foamy ocean background. To create my card I used the Brass and Bliss newly released  Tropical Birds and Leaves and Seagulls and Sandpipers along with  Wheat Grass, Build a Bloom Clematis, Inside Scallop Frame, Outside Scallop Frame and Deckle Hills.

Create the Foamy Ocean Background

  • Cut a 5.25″ x 4.00″ piece of white cardstock.
  • Apply a piece of masking tape across the middle of the white layer to mask off the sky area.
  • Apply blue ink to the bottom half of the white layer with a large blending brush to create the ocean layer.
  • Remove the mask and create the cloudy sky area using a cloud stencil and blue ink.
  • Create the sea foam by dabbing on white embossing paste and add sparkle by sprinkling crystal clear glitter before the paste dries.
  • Attach the layer to the white card base using double stick tape.

Frame and Sand Layer

  • Use white cardstock to cut the largest Outside Scallop frame and the next size down of the Inside  Scallop Frame.
  • Turn the large frame face down and tuck the smaller frame inside the larger frame and attach the two together using double stick tape. Note:  The  picture below is from another project but shows how the two frames fit together.
  • Scallop Frame 3
  • Use white cardstock to cut a sand layer using one of the Deckle Hills dies.
  • Apply light brown ink to the layer using a blending brush.
  • Remove the double stick tape from the frame and attach the sand layer.
  • Apply strips of mounting tape all the way around the back of the frame and sand layer and attach it over the top of the die cut card beach scene.

Flowers

  • Cut the flower layers from the Tropical Birds and Leaves using white cardstock.
  • Apply pink ink to the flower layers using a blending brush.
  • Place the flowers face down on a molding pad and use a large round stylus to push down and roll over each petal.
  • Turn the flower sections face up and push down in the center with the stylus to push the petals up.
  • Attach the flowers together using Nuvo glue.
  • Use bright yellow cardstock to cut tiny flowers and attach them in the middle of the larger flowers.

Foliage and Seagull

  • Use green and light green cardstock to cut the foliage sections from the Tropical Birds and Leaves and the Wheat Grass sets.
  • Attach the dark green vein layers to the light green leaves using Nuvo glue.
  • Attach three leaf sections to each corner of the frame using glossy accents.  Pro Tip:  I prefer using glossy accents to attach the large leaves together for a really strong bond.
  • Tuck the wheat grass sections and small foliage sections in behind the leaves on each side of the frame and attach them using glossy accents.
  • Cut the seagull using white cardstock, apply light gray ink to the wings with a small blending brush and attach it to the sky area using small pieces of mounting tape.

This  die cut card beach scene may look hard to make but by following each step you will see how easy it is to make.
