Relaxing Shore Birds

Good Sunday morning.  When I go to the beach for vacation I get the most pleasure out of sitting under the umbrella and watching the birds play in the rolling surf.  My project today is a simple beach scene made with several gulls looking for snacks along the water’s edge.  The gulls were made using the Impression Obsession Shore Birds set, the sentiment is from the Riding Pretty stamp set and the frame was made using the Nesting Rectangles.

I sponged the brown sand in using a mini applicator then masked the waterline with removable labeling tape and sponged in the blue water.  I punched out a circle from a doubled up piece of removable tape, masked off the sun and sponged in the clouds. I finished the sky by placing the negative open circle from the punched tape over the sun and sponged it with yellow. I added a few scribbled in sections of sea grass with a peeled paint marker. I applied liquid applique to the ocean and along the shore line and dabbed it lightly with my finger to spread it out before heating.  Dabbing and flattening out the liquid applique with your fingers helps avoid the dreaded blobs that can sometimes occur if you add too much in one place.  The frame was attached over the scene with thin strips of mounting tape.

The birds bodies and legs were colored with a pumice stone marker.  I just sort of scribbled the spots on the backs of the birds.  I didn’t want them to look too defined.  I used a mini applicator to color the beaks.  The birds were attached to the scene with rolled up glue dots and with a touch of glossy accents on their feet to hold them in place.
