Girls Just Wanna Have Fun! Dirty Dozen Past and Present Monthly Challenge

Today is monthly Dirty Dozen/Dirty Dozen Alumni challenge on Splitcoaststampers and it’s all about girls, girls, girls. Old girls, young girls, sweet little girls, big sophisticated girls, teenage girls, no matter…..just girls!  See the list below for the challenge rules:

Challenge Focus: Girls Young and Old (your main image must be or include a girl – think Bella, Ronnie, Hanna, Elzy, Rubber Romance, etc. etc.)

Required Element: Something *SWEET* – you may interpret that any way you like.

Restricted Element: NO standard A-2 cards (4.25 x 5.5). Any other card size or type of project is ok.

I know you have heard the saying "you can tell the age of the boy by the price of his toys".  The same goes for girls. Especially girls that are stampers.  Card Making The Dirty Dozen girls are getting a big kick out of these monthly challenges and figuring out what stamps to use for the subject.  I know for myself I ordered an Elzybels image from the UK for this challenge but it didn’t get here.  Doh!!!  What a disappointment!!!  So…I pulled out my Stampin’ Up! set-Tu-tu Terrific and used an image that has never seen ink. In figuring how to use this image I decided the girls had to be sitting outside of a Soda Shop (do they still have those?) sharing a big "sweet" sundae and enjoying each other’s company.  Two things that go together perfectly is ice cream and a good friend to share it with.  I decided a 5×5" square kick stand card  would be perfect to showcase this little Soda Shop scene. I stamped the girls twice (well….really several times as I made so many mistakes) and painted with Adirondack Dye reinkers, cut out and set aside.  I sketched the window, wall and sidewalk around the base image with an artist pen and painted.  I used a Copic marker to create the gray window….and believe me…I am no Jeanne S with these markers as I really need lessons…. oh Jeeeeaaannnne!!! I cut strips of brown paper to create a little window frame. I used a black artist pen to write Soda Shop, etc on the window and then put a layer of Diamond Glaze on to look like glass.  I don’t think it shows in the photo. Mounting tape and dimensionals made the images stand up too high so I mounted them with layered glue dots three deep for just the perfect pop up effect. . I stamped the awning image from My Favorite Things-Meet Me at the Cafe set with red pepper ink and embossed with clear embossing powder. I colored the awning with red pepper and then shaded in with cranberry. I adhered the awning with glue dots along the very top and then used mounting tape along the bottom and two layers deep right in the center to look fully popped up and out over the girls. I thought the sidewalk looked a little bare so I sketched out a little pot and used a leaf stamp from My Favorite Things-It’s a Jungle out There to create a plant.  My final little touch was to use the Friend sentiment from Smorgasborders to create a little tag.  I used designer paper from Provocraft Holiday Slab V.  Does anyone remember when soda and candy shops had red and white stripes? Does anyone remember sode and candy shops? This card was lots of fun to create.

  1. OK I had to come here and get the real deets on how you did these little girls. I am surprised you hadn’t inked something up from that set, since it has been one of your favorite sets in the past. It turned out amazingly darling. I bet that window looks super cool IRL. Nice job and LOVE IT!!!

  2. wow – you did this up RIGHT! I remember soda shops! In fact, in the town next to where we bought property, we discovered there is still one there! they don’t have sidewalk seating but a few cafe tables inside. It’s called Lock Drugs (also a pharmacy) so fun!!

  5. Kittie, this is absolutely adorable. I do remember soda and candy shops. In fact, my sister and brother used to worked as roller skating car hops at a local ice cream shop. Such fun and good memories your card brought back. TFS
