Ya-Hoo!!!

The Technique Lover’s Challenge on Splitcoaststampers is celebrating the 150th event today.  We were given a bonus challenge to go back and choose one of our favorite’s techniques from the past challenges and create a card.  I could hardly resist doing TLC107-Kittie Cards. I was really excited back in March 2007 when I checked out the Monday challenge and saw that everyone was invited to try and create a card with an image and landscape.  I have been having fun creating watercolor landscape scenes for almost two years now and felt so complimented to have my technique referred to as Kittie Cards.

I did a modified scene for my card today.  I chose these darling western images from Rubbernecker Stamp Company to create a landscape and added some distressing.  I painted the cowboy, fence and wagon wheel with Ranger Adirondack and Distress reinkers. I used a dry brush by brushing directly over the ink pad and brushed directly on the watercolor paper.  It creates a stipple effect and I like the look so much better than watercoloring the large area. Instead of creating trees or grassy area in the background I decided to use designer paper with perfect western colors and to emboss the brand images.  I cut out the cowboy scene and popped it up on contrasting rust paper to make it stand out.  I created the Ya-Hoo sign by embossing the sentiment and then painting with Distress reinker and then distressed the borders and ran directly on the pad.  I distressed the layers of the designer paper as well.  I cut out a few horse shoes and tossed on the ground by the wheel and hung a rope around the fence post.  I think this chubby little cowboy is wonderful and I loved working with all the elements to create such a fun scene.  All images are Rubbernecker.

  1. Your work is truly amazing. What a wonderful job of coloring you do. that is one of my goals for 2008 I want to learn to color like that, not having too much luck yet but the year is still young!
