Today’s SCS Featured Stamper challenge featured Amy-Pickle Tree as our inspiration artist. Here is a link to her card that inspired me. I’ve seen so many wonderful cards in the galleries using little sailboats. I decided to use the little sailboat in my Rubbernecker-Beach Party collection for my card. Amy’s card is a nursery/baby card but I went a different direction. I wanted to use bold red, white and blue but I still wanted to incorporate the wave layers that Amy used. I sponged a fairly dark layer of Distress Broken China on white cardstock for the ocean layer. I stamped it several times with the wave image in the collection and then cut several layers out to pop up for dimension. I painted versa over the cut line of each layer and embossed with white embossing powder. I created the main sky layer by sponging on a softer layer of the Broken China and using a scalloped cut post it. I stamped the little cloud image with versa and embossed with white embossing powder. I then brushed on the versa to fill in the cloud and again embossed with white embossing powder. I cut the clouds out so I could pop them up. I stamped the boats on scrap watercolor paper and painted with Distress Fire Brick and Broken China reinkers. I used a fine point white poster paint Sharpie to color the white areas on one boat and then cut them all out. I started layering the scene together and used dimensionals and mounting tape to create the dimensional appearance of waves and for the boats to not look all on the same level. I popped up the clouds by popping up a little with balled up glue dots. I thought the red and white striped grosgrain, solid red grosgrain and star brad made the perfect embellishment for this fun card.
