Give Thanks For The Simple Things In Life

The Color Challenge on Splitcoaststampers Tuesday was to use dark chocolate brown, rust and a light orange. They were the perfect colors to use on a fall card so I turned to a retired Stampin’ Up! set called Give Thanks.

I stamped the basket full of leaves and hand sketched in the tree trunk in the background with an artist pen.  I watercolored the images and the ground area and sponged in the light orange to highlight.  I added a little texture to the ground area using the fern stamp from my Kittie Kits. I thought this image would look wonderful layered over a dark brown background with dark brown multi loop bow. The layered edges of both the image and sentiment were cut with deckle scissors.

Embedded Image

I also want to share a project that I did for the Splitcoaststampers Try a New Technique Challenge on Monday. The technique was called Embedded Image and you can find the instructions here. The basics of this technique was to layer several layers of clear embossing powder on paper and then stamp a silhouette image on the built up layer and emboss with a dark embossing powder. I used Lovely as a Tree and embossed in gold.  When heated the tree images seem to embed themselves right into the layer of clear embossing.  It does not show really well in the photo but it is really quite pretty and interesting.  I decided to layer my image on gold paper and embellish with a gold multi loop bow.
