An Apple A Day

Good morning!  I have really enjoyed being off work for several days and have lots of fun stamping and taking part in the Splitcoaststampers Challenges. I created today’s project for the Saturday Inspiration challenge.

KC Give Thanks 13

I love the bucket of apples in the retired SU Give Thanks set. It makes such an interesting focal point for a card and It is so cheery and happy to me. I stamped the bucket of apples two times and a few extra apples to pop up. I painted the apples and the outline area of the bucket image of the main layer and set aside. I created the yellow tone on the apples by painting a small area of yellow, heat drying and then painting with red and cranberry. I then took a totally clean damp brush and lightly spread a little of the red from the apple over the yellow to soften it. I painted only the bucket and lower apples for the popped up layer and cut it out and adhered to the main layer. I accomplished the shading on the bucket by first painting with gray and then with a dry brush and ink gathered directly from the pads of more mustard and sahara sand applied to the image using a stipple motion. I cut out one more apple to pop up on the largest apple at the bottom of the image. Sadly all this wonderful dimension does not show well in the picture. I used retired SU papers from two different sets to create the base of the card and cut frame matting with Nestabilities. I used mounting tape to attach the frame. I love adding polka dot embossing somewhere on my card as I think it adds interest and texture. I feel the crimper adds interesting texture as well. I used my new frond punch to add an interesting embellishment to the project along with one large apple.

Here is a little closer view to show the dimension of the popped up images as well as the dry stipple shading on the bucket.

  1. This card is so pretty. Refreshing to see the apples. Like a teaser, of warm sunny days of summer, ouch, in this cold winter. Thank you for sharing.
